Twin stick roguelite with tons of depth. One of those games that I played for about an hour and knew I would play it for at least 50 more. STD DLC would be awesome.

Hey roguelite lovers, y'know how our favorite genre can be kind of dime-a-dozen these days, and we all yearn for that special game that sinks its hooks in and doesn't let go? Twin stick shooter fans? My poor neglected friends? You know how it seems like games that feel *good* are hard to find? This is that game. Also, ten bucks is absurdly low. I don't know what you're waiting for.

This is a new high watermark for indie releases in 2026. I find that [excuse my doom and gloom], many indie releases nowadays are in one of two categories: - Overly ambitious and messy releases that try to do way too much at once. These also typically suffer horrific technical issues that serve to stifle their game's growth while the devs try to put out the fire they lit. - Extremely derivative games that have very few original ideas and and generally offer less than the games they are inspired by. Pathogenic is a wonderfully polished game with enough great features that I'm going to go through them separately. MUSIC: Before even talking about the game, I want to talk about the soundtrack. Your microbe lays down hail after hail of gunfire to some of the most apt BGM I've ever heard. I never once thought that an intestine or lungs could have a fitting soundtrack. Not only was I wrong, I couldn't imagine the music being anything other than what it is. GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is tight, responsive, and only purposefully obtuse. You careen through levels blasting a body's immune system [and other things] by hauling together a host of randomly dropped organelles. Every decision down to the most rigorous, micro-managed placement of organelles has an effect, and it's normally a tradeoff. Just when you think you have the perfect placement of your parts, you'll get an evolution to change your cell's shape, often completely changing your strategy and offering several new ones in the process. This game is a pure joy to not only play, but plan and strategise with. Travelling through biomes offers new parts, currencies, and maps to get acquainted with. Hell, in some zones the map is often more dangerous than the enemies. GRAPHICS: The most important thing that graphics can do is provide readable game information. ♥♥♥♥ graphical fidelity; style is forever. Pathogenic is bright, colourful, and readable even in stressful situations or in a bullet-hell [a scenario that happens often]. My only critique here is that some of the organelles can look quite similar to one another, but it really isn't too much of an issue. You can open the editor any time out of combat and check exactly what things do. The different biomes are all wonderfully designed and each one boasts it's own unforgettable colour palette. Combined with the music, it really adds a sense of place to each zone. ROGUELIKENESS: The unlocks in Pathogenic aren't drip fed. Cleverly, you unlock more game mechanics based on your progress in runs instead of requiring multiple runs to "grind things out". Effectively, if you can handle further game mechanics, then the game gives them to you. Not only do you unlock new mechanics, but you'll unlock new starting loadouts and persistent boosts to help you through the tougher biomes. TECHNICAL: In my playtime of 5~ hours, I have yet to find a single bug. Bravo to the devs. The game runs smoothly, and the only time I found a slowdown was when I purposefully engineered it by burst-firing Bomberman bombs across the entire screen. Any framerate issue the game has is going to be from a source so awesome that the player won't care. If you're a regular enjoyer of room based roguelikes [The Binding of Isaac, Hades, Gunfire Reborn] then definitely give this one a shot. It will make sure that you enjoy every moment.

As of writing this, this game has no reviews. Allow me to be the first. I've been playing pathogenic since it released as a demo, and wow, it's gotten better. New intros, animations, menus. Its so much better! Performance issues i saw last time, gone! anything i could've complained about is missing so far. I love critiquing game, this one i just cant. So if you are reading this, wondering if you would like it. Just get to the infection, it beckons.
