People of Note is a game that quietly pulls you in and doesn’t let go. I went in not exactly knowing what to expect and ended up having a great time with it! If you’re a fan of music games and RPGs, this is absolutely for you. The characters go through meaningful growth, they’re genuinely funny (even if it gets a bit corny at times), and the songs are fantastic. The sound design is easily a 10/10 and really carries a lot of the experience. Combat uses an off-beat timing system, which is a really fun twist. It could use a bit more explanation early on, but once it clicks, it feels great. There’s also a nice amount of customization, you can build your team however you like, whether that’s a support-heavy setup with one massive damage dealer (we’re talking 1000+ damage which is quite alot for this game) or more balanced, all-rounder characters. Toward the end of the game, there is quite a bit of running around for side quests, and that was the one time I found myself thinking, “Alright, this is a bit much.” That said, the game is sprinkled with secrets, and exploring them is genuinely rewarding. Talking to NPCs and getting to know the world pays off, and all side content is completely optional, mostly offering small power boosts rather than feeling mandatory. Overall, I really enjoyed People of Note. It’s charming, creative, and full of personality, definitely worth your time if you enjoy music or RPGs.

People of Note was clearly made with a lot of love and overall is a well polished 20-30hr JRPG. As I played, I was constantly eager to see the next area, hear the next tune, and meet the next character. The game is just a joy to play and offered a new experience for this 40yr old JRPG fan and I expect it to be nominated for best sound design this year. (I played on normal difficulty) Pros -Great soundtrack through and through (crucial for a music game) -Fully voiced -Has an Interesting battle system that they slowly introduce more complexity into -You actually have to change up your strategy to deal with different foes (mostly bosses) -Highly polished, didn't run into a single bug or frame stutter -Quick and easy to pick up and understand, the different environments and cities are exciting and fit their genre well -Top tier puns and musical references -Well written and easy to understand story with some moral and philosophical undertones Cons -While many of the puzzles in the game are great a few just didn't give me enough feedback to understand them and required looking online -No fast travel system and end game requires some backtracking and long walks -Along the same line, there's 20 trivia challenges you can find around the world, and an NPC that can reset any of the trivia you missed but you then have to remember which ones you missed and where they were. At least have the NPC tell you which ones you missed otherwise you HAVE to look online for the locations and I think its always bad if you NEED to use the internet to progress in a game (that being said, this was just for optional content) Gameplay - 8 (easy to understand and enjoyable but nothing that breaks the mold) Sound Design - 10 (Just excellent OST all the way through) Battle System - 10 (Evolving battle system that you need to engage with and understand to progress. There's no "set it and forget it" builds) Writing - 8 (Characters all have strong and unique personalities, the puns and humor was off the charts, story is easy to follow but has a few twists and turns to keep you intrigued) Pacing - 7 (end game back tracking hurts the pacing) Polish (bug free) - 10 (looks beautiful and runs well) Overall rating - 9/10

3 major things occur during People of Note. 1. The Story is simple, if you've seen a disney movie then you know the story but that's not to say it's bad. It's your typical. Hero goes on a journey, gets a quest, saves the world but the reason why it's known is because it works and People of Note uses it to it's advantage. 2. The combat is amazing in many ways except one. Combat is played in 'stanzas' where the enemies attacks are already telegraphed and your party's actions fill in the blank spaces, you can alter the timeline with power ups/downs, bp cost change and increasing/decreasing how many actions each side can perform and big plus is that the skills are completely customisable and your weapon determines how many skills and how you can alter them. 2.5. I did not like the 'skill-based' rhythm game you need to play in order to maximise your skills power, it's not on time to the music and I don't feel like the tutorial is sufficient in explaining the new half-beats you have to deal with. 3.The music is important for a world in which every locations has it's own style and genre. The music in this game feels right, like nothing was just shoved in. Each location matches it's music whether in or out of combat and when a musical moment comes in it matches well with the character singing it or location it is in. In conclusion, the game is fun, simple and doesn't require much gaming experience to get into it. It does feel like a disney movie but that just adds to the charm. Highly recommended to turn-based lovers, casual players and those who love music.

I really gotta thank the person who was crying about how woke DEI this game is because I bought it just to spite them, and it's very fun cute and charming and well made. The music is good, the gameplay is solid and the story is feelsgood. I hope this game gets the attention it deserves

REVIEW FROM A GUY WHO ISN'T IN TO MUSIC OR MUSICALS: If you are holding off as someone who is an avid JRPG fan but not into musicals, hopefully this review is helpful. At 5 hours in the game is extremely enjoyable and what you'd expect for a smaller scale 20ish hour JRPG. Standard tactical combat with enough nuance to make it feel challenging and fun. The main thing is the story isn't in your face and preachy about the musical aspect. It's in fact very well written and fun. I'm enjoying the characters and am even getting some of the references to 90/20's era bands. As someone taking a break from 140 hours of Crimson Desert, this game is an amazing palate cleanser. Also, if you're worried about the "Musical" aspect, the cut scenes in regard to that are in fact fairly brief, and in my opinion very well done.
