I dont think Phantom Fury is a BAD boomer shooter. Is it better than Ion fury? Fuck no. Not even close. Ion Fury was a labor of love on a outdated engine that even in the 90's was a pain in the ass to make games on. Phantom Fury on paper is the perfect Boomer Shooter, and it has the "vibes" to fool most into thinking its the best in the genre. Pointless interactive objects? CHECK! Pixelated visuals? CHECK! Wise cracking protagonist yelling one liners? CHECK! The "vibes" are indeed here, so why the hate? While i think some Youtubers are to blame for the initial reactions, i can't blame them for playing the terrible demo and giving their thoughts. The full release has gotten better after some updates, but the launch being bad doesnt help. The game still kinda runs like shit, which is odd considering the genre itself is replicating games that ran buttery smooth. Combat is fun for the most part but the weapons lack the punch and depth Ion Fury had. Map design is TERRIBLE, the amount of backtracking to find where i need to go next is ridiculous. Some of the situation solutions make no sense. "find the power switch to turn the computer on", then why the hell are the lights working already and there is no clear indication I NEED TO FIND THE POWER?! How about Shelly talks less about killing people and more about helping the player? Shelly is another low point, she was a fun and witty badass in Ion Fury, now shes a psychopath that loves killing. Another downside is the lack of a antagonist. We are told some vague force of power is looking for weapons of mass destruction, but never name the person in charge or give us a reason to hate them other than "they bad". I don't think Ion Phantom is terrible. Its not GREAT, but i've played FAAAR worse in this genre. Its a generic but entertaining shooter that i'd recommend for $15 or less.

Don't listen to the reviews that say this game is like Half-Life. It's not at all. Not even close. The game play is nothing like Half-life. It has immersive sim qualities to it but it feels like it is it's own unique game. The weapons are fun and sound good. Some bugs, and the a.i. isn't the best, but this game is fun. Combat is punchy and feels good. The story line is generic, but emotes. I bought this game with low expectations with all the reviews, but it's actually pretty fun. get it on sale. Feels like Duke Nukem Forever but actually good, if that makes any sense.

This post is after playing it with patch 2: Overall the game improved a lot and the biggest issues were fixed making it a much more enjoyable and polished experience, having said that, I really wish they released one more patch to polish the last level a bit more. The most important issues I had were that the game crashed once, an enemy killed me through the walls and Graywater got stuck in his final phase which made me kill him really fast (idk how common this is for other players) Sometimes I feel bad for really liking this game , but I do really like it and if you can overlook some jank then I would say its absolutely worth it.

A fun little boomer shooter. No clue why it's getting bad reviews. Cool guns and fun level design and some variety of action by letting you control vehicles in some levels. I'd say it's worth the money and your time if you like old school FPSs.

I wish Steam had a different format for reviewing games. Titles like this straddle the line between "recommend" and "not recommend". Phantom Fury is not done. It has bugs, some levels (especially the open format ones) feel unfinished, the game is clearly lacking ambient sound, the AI is pretty bad, etc. However, I've had fun with it. I'm on the 12th of 15 chapters, and not once have I thought the core gameplay is bad. The weapons hit hard, the level design is good, and the enemies, while not varied, are fun to fight. The game has had 2 patches since launch, and they have improved the game quite a bit in regards to the bugs and sometimes spotty performance. I think this title is something that anyone who likes the type of FPS titles that were released in the late 90s to mid 2000s would enjoy. It's no Half-Life 2 or Far Cry, but it's worth 10 bucks or so. Wait for it to go on sale and scoop it then. It's not nearly as bad as forums and youtubers would have you believe.
