Over 10 years in the making, a game with a political message released just at the right time. Phonopolis is the latest work of Amanita, a studio that is well known for its charming story-focused point and click games. I had no doubt that they will make me fall in love with this game again, and I cannot say that I'm not. Phonopolis feels like an amalgamation of the studio's previous works while also trying something new. An insane amount of time, energy and quality went into this game, resulting in a solid experience. You feel that Amanita really wanted to deliver a message, but occasionally seems to shiver a little about it even though it wouldn't need to. Let's get the basics out of the way. You get the typical point and click puzzle game: some puzzles are more straight forward than others, some might need a bit of trial and error. In between you get to explore the city which opens up more over time. Occasionally you're rewarded with a cut scene. After 5 hours I was done with the game, which felt just right for the asking price. So far so good. You see, previous Amanita titles could be split into two categories: - The Samorost/Machiarium style games: calm and slow paced games with little hand holding. Sometimes I'd look at a scene for 20 minutes, pondering, looking for clues, trying things, while my mind tried to connect it all together. The games would make no rush about it. - Botanicula style games: they're more cartoony, sometimes loud, sometimes silly and definitely more linear, quicker in the pace. In Phonopolis it feels like these two worlds have collided. You have these wonderful puzzle scenes, which are sometimes easy, but also sometimes not so easy. The game is very busy, the town is full of people, most puzzles have you either interact with them, or flee from the authority. So the pace is definitely on the high side, while the puzzles sometimes require a bit more time. And unfortunately those two attributes sometimes work against each other. Sometimes it feels like the devs were scared to lose your attention, and multiple puzzles will give you hints quite early on, something I'm not a big fan of. Give me time, ease a bit, I want to think it through. After all though, I enjoyed my time in Phonopolis. The storytelling is wonderful, I enjoyed the game being dubbed. The graphics are amazing, and do a great job at guiding you through the world. The puzzles are still fun to solve, even with the issues I had about some of them. Once again I have to praise Floex for making an amazing soundtrack, one that I'll listen to aplenty outside the game as well. I wonder how the changes in today's world have changed Phonopolis path. I wonder if Amanita would've thought 10 years ago that the timing couldn't be better for such a game. I gotta say if I played this back then, I definitely would have had a different perspective than today.

High quality work. An almost unbelievable level of creativity and effort has gone into this. It is worth the money. I believe it is about the correct length too. Puzzles are a good difficulty level, you wont get too stuck. You will probably get a little stuck. But not too stuck.

If someone ever asks you "Can videogames be art?", just show them this game, and the process behind making it. Getting an artistic masterpiece like this in the middle of the AI slop era is a blessing, and a testament to how true art will never die

Another wonderful treat from Amanita Design. I am in my 88th year and I wish more Seniors knew about the large number of problem-solving computer games like Machinarium, Portal, etc. that tell interesting stories and exercise the 'little grey cells' as Poirot would say. There is so much imagination and creativity devoted to creating these games. Although most of my body is worn out, my eyes, ears and brain are still working great and playing these games makes me feel young again. So, you young folks out there, sit with one of your parents, grandparents or any other Senior you know and share the joy! Thanks Amanita!

Was waiting for this for soooooooo long, and it's here!! The most unique art I have ever come across in a game. Amazing music and an immersive experience, as usual, from Amanita Studio. A really thought provoking premise of the story. So cool.
