I won't lie, when I first played this after its initial release, while I enjoyed myself? I found myself getting distracted from it due to a slow slog of progression and a bit of being 'stuck'. Thankfully, with the most recent Enchanted Garden Update, they've absolutely fixed that sensation and made it far more addictive to play. The talent tree system and expanded options for the garden let you progress and unlock avenues that fit your playstyle and preferences a bit more, and let you more easily match any challenges you find. If you were sitting on this game for awhile, now is very much the time to jump in; and if you've got an old save you've been neglecting like I was, don't flinch and just wipe it to start fresh. You'll enjoy yourself far more!

Wilx100% (May 21, 2023) - It was pretty fun for a while, but after playing a good chunk of the game, it kinda just gets repetitive. Like you end up seeing the same characters with the same dialogue, end up making the same potions, end up going down the same path and yeah just gets repetitive. But that is mainly because I was trying to get all the achievements so it took A LOT of doing the same thing over and over again, over all its a decent game, I liked it. I would rate this game a 6/10.

This is a game for a very particular kind of player, the kind who's tired of the basic crafting systems in MMOs and RPGs that are only as complicated as "this item is made with these exact ingredients." If you were craving free-form alchemy systems like that of the Elder Scrolls where a single product can be made in multiple ways, where different items have properties that can be used in multiple different recipes, this is that -- on crack. Each ingredient in this game moves you somewhere on the 'alchemy map', steering you towards different possible potion effects. Some ingredients are more efficient and travel further than others, whereas others travel across the map in different directions to circumvent 'obstacles', in the goal of being able to reach desired potion effects. Previously completed recipes can be saved and made instantly, and a knack for organization pays off in dividends later. Some potions are simple, while the most complex could take upwards of five minutes to figure out a path to travel. As new ingredients become available, sometimes old potions can be made in new or better ways. Again, for people who crave the idea of using their creativity to solve problems in as elegant a fashion as possible, this game scratches that itch. However, the game does drag on towards the end. To make the game's final product and end-goal requires sinking almost a dozen unique and complicated potions, which don't serve any other purpose except to make those couple legendary items. Not to mention the reputation system which, while fine for most of the game, took me over a third of my total 'days spent' to get from reputation 12 to 15, most of it spent selling potions I had already mastered (not to mention customers with inane requests which take more time to complete than to reject and just help the next people). Also, the experience system is a bit 'whatever'. You can earn experience by 'exploring' the alchemy maps, making potions, or making sales, but it just comes in on its own without the need for much thought. I'm also wondering why there was only one extra alchemy map -- I thought the idea of getting the Oil base was neat, opened up lots more potion opportunities, and more maps could have opened some possibilities for the later levels when the game starts to feel repetitive. All in all, a game that largely feels like how a crafting system in a proper RPG should be, though without the whole RPG part -- it's like someone said "man, I really want to make a complex and interesting crafting system, but I'm never going to be able to make the rest of the game, so let's just make the crafting the game." It's great, *if* you're the crafter type who wants to sit, think, and solve open-ended puzzles. Oh, and herbalist girl is not romanceable. That was a let down too.

Played (and enjoyed!) this in early 2023. The developer was posting lots of news at the time of features to come. I eventually put the game down but came back to it in mid 2024 expecting dramatic changes, only to find it more or less the same as before. It's beautiful, and those first several hours of discovery are undeniably magical. But pressing onward, it's clear so much of this is a placeholder for content that just isn't here yet. Maybe we'll eventually get to see the dev's magnum opus, but until then, buy with the understanding that it's about 5 hours of novelty, followed by a not-unpleasant but ultimately aimless grind for a handful of new mechanics that are no longer useful by the time they're within reach. More detailed opinions regarding unlockable mechanics: When I first saw the developer teasing big new updates, I was averse to the idea of game elements dramatically changing on me. Now, a year on without any of those teased changes in sight, I'm impatient to see them implemented. The revamped skill tree and customizable garden would do wonders for fleshing out the mid- to late-game experience, as would adding things like purchasable cauldrons, spoons, mortars, etc. As it is, the gameplay loop is defined mostly by the gradual introduction of new ingredients. Minerals in particular are a big deal. But beyond that? Void Salt is a mostly unnecessary curiosity. Sun and Moon Salts are potentially game-changing but ponderous enough to produce that I didn't want to make liberal use of them. By the time Life and Philosopher's Salts showed up, the game had trained me for several dozen hours in how to obviate their need. However, give me a few new bases and potion types to pursue, plus a one-click solution to generate more of the rare regeants and salts, and the late game could feel just as compelling as the outset!
