I used to play this as a kid with my father. Its very fun and well rounded despite its age. It adds on more to the economic side of things than most games would.

Love this game. One can focus on "big picture" management. Lay rails switching not a worry. Graphics were not the best on day one, time hasn't been kind to it that way. While not as pretty, I still find it more enjoyable. Stock market can be your end if not wary of it. Lost a few games via hostile takeover. Game play 9/10 Difficulty 4-10/10 dependant on settings Graphics 2/10 {when game was new 5/10} Over all 8/10 Better than RT2 in some ways, but it's growing on me.

It's an older game with a fair degree of depth. I used to play the heck out of this when it first came out. Nostalgia and a surplus of free time brought me back.

Still the GOAT train management game. It doesn't have the intricate details of other games, you can't place signals or even quadruple track or anything, and there's invisible passing sidings everywhere, but this just streamlines the core gameplay of finding profitable industries, finding the best way to build track between them, financing, and then running trains. It's not a perfect smooth experience for this purpose; I think the ideal train game would make it easier to group trains and change cargo consists in bulk, but nothing I am aware of even comes close to being as smooth of a focused experience on this aspect of railroad management. Also, it's old as shit, and is a pain in the ass to get running on windows. It's plug and play on Linux though.

While the city generation looks a bit odd, it still works better than any other railroad game. Cargo transportation is realistic, and trains are both realistic and unique. You can find new maps and a few other mods if you search, and you can also search about how to have this 20-year-old game work without crashing, which is not true of many 20-year-old games.
