Since part 3 of this magnificent game came out today, I thought its time for a review of this one. If we're lucky i'll never play it again. Its by far the best Game of its genre (until TF3 proves me wrong). If you like trains or trucks: play this game. Obviously If you like spreadsheets: play this game. If you like solving problems to create more problems to solve until you have no idea whats happening and how anything works: play this game. Here the fun really starts when stuff like Railway Empire is at its limits
For whatever reason, I got super interested in trains when I turned 50. I guess that's just how it works when you hit this age: "Happy birthday, you're now obsessed with locomotives!" Anyhow, this game is pretty good for scratching that itch. It's basically a virtual model train set, with some extra bells and whistles. Pun fully intended. It's also fiddly, a little janky, difficult to learn, and an immense time sink. But I paid less than $2 for it, so it's ok. I don't know what full price is, but don't pay that. Apparently "Transport Fever 3" comes out in a few weeks, I might try it if it isn't too spendy.
Its a fun transport game with a lot of content and cool mods. I like how you progress though the decades and the cities grow with you. The economic supply to factories etc. is actually my favourite part. However, there are some balance issues. You soon start to drown in money with little incentive to keep playing. By the time you unlock the cool new toys, there is little incentive left to play.
