A game about watching numbers rise. But what is life, if not watching the year count rise and your bank account dwindle? Now, I've just finished my first "complete" playthrough and there are a few things I want to talk about. Let's start with the most important: most of the negative reviews are old. The UI and tutorial have been improved greatly. In my entire playtime I've only found what I think was a bug once. The artstyle, music and sound effects are gorgeous. DO NOT buy this game expecting something similar to a city/base builder. Actually you build very few structures, and spend most of the time upgrading your existing buildings, changing the engineering cells and min-maxing the different configurations. There are only two or three things in the UI that I would improve, but the tutorial does a good job teaching the very basics and you can quickly learn everything else by clicking and reading. Speaking of the tutorial, I think it's incomplete. It explains the basics in a way that you won't feel completely hopeless, but many important things you have to learn by yourself, like how to expand your production - it's a lot more complicated than you might think. This would be fine, if only it stopped there. Some things aren't obvious and are hard to learn by yourself, like how to use heat exchange and how to get the liquid and nuclear fuel. It should also explain that there are heat and pressure limits THAT ARE THE SUM OF ALL HEAT AND PRESSURE PRODUCED BY THE WHOLE POWERPLANT, not per building/sector, and things explode when going over this limit. That brings me to the next point: REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR GAME FREQUENTLY, and do not fear to try things and revert to a save. The game has no autosave feature, and the best way to learn is by exploding. The reason why I put the "" in "complete" near the start of this review is because I lost quite a few times before finally succeeding. Learn how things work, get a feel for the effects of each modification, and don't fear to go back to a save. Does the game become stale and unfun after some time? It's complicated, mainly because of the nature of the gameplay and how the game scales. After I better understood the game and started my last and most successful playthrough I advanced very quickly, in a way that always had me on my toes - always changing the configurations and tunning things. I think many people get in wanting a city/base builder, and as I said before, it isn't. The game can scale pretty massivelly tho, and after some time I had more money than things to spend it on, and more than double the popularity of every other competitor (playing on standart difficulty). Sometimes I just turned everything off and let the years fly at 10x speed until completing some research. All in all, I had fun with this game, and believe I will come back to it after some time. If you like games with a chill atmosphere, where you manage resources and expand your production, you may like this one. Some advices for new players: expanding is not simple, research heat exchangers and heat and pressure resistance before trying to add another boiler and ALWAYS SAVE BEFORE CHANGING ANYTHING; pay attention to research that you need to buy after it's completed; try to always accept a new contract one month before the current one ends, and don't fear having more than one contract active at the same time; warehouses and power storage must be powered to function, you can see what is powered by clicking on it, and the colored squares in build view are the range of power and water distribution, yellow for power and blue for water. Remember that "conduits" must also be within the range of another powered entity.

⠀⠀Reactor Tech is an energy simulator, you take on the role of a top-down manager. Put yourself on par with China in terms of energy production and take matters into your own hands, you can stick but you need to figure it out first Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time. There is a fine little game hidden behind some inaccessibility and i would love to see it shine. The critiques concerning the UI sadly are deserved. This game doesnt tell you as much as you would like and a lot of the points i will refer to right now are a mixture of guesswork and trial and error. I had to search for he number telling me how much power my Powerplant is actually producing. That is somewhat awkward, because you would expect this to be displayed somewhere prominent and easily to see. Especially in the beginning you may, in the absence of an obvious indicator, struggle to see what effect your adjustments of Water, heat and so on actually have. I know it took me a while. Next issue are the contracts. This game actually appears to do a lot for you there, but it doesnt tell you what it does. If you take a contract that requires you to provide a given amount of power permanently for the whole period of the contract for example, the game will substract the required amount from the power you produce and take any deficit automatically from your "battery". It goes similar if the contract requires you to provide a certain amount in total within the timeframe. i may be wrong here, but It looks like the game will not empty the battery right away, but somehwat scale this with the power you produce at the moment. but since you dont know how the actual ratio at any given moment are (because the game doesnt tell you whats the current demand is) its very easy to take a contract to much, totally exhaust your powerplant and go bancrupt from the fees for breaching the contracts. i understand that this is part of the risk and therefore fun of the game. It is not meant to be easy. But some more accessible information here would be nice, so that the player at least knows what is happening when he looses and why he lost. Another example is the actual managmenent of ou powercores. You got an indicator for total heat of the Core front and center, wich is nice. You even got a annoying alarm signal if it gets to hot. The tolerance is upgradable. Much appreciated once again. But a Core consists of up to 4 sectors, and they have their own heat- and pressure scales wich you have to look for. Components in use also have a maximum heat and pressure tolerance wich can be upgraded as far as i understand, but i have yet to see if the upgraded values are shown somewhere. That leads to weird situations where your total values for the powerplant are fine, but it breaks down nonetheless for reasons that may remain a mystery for the player. Reason may be overheating of a Turbine, or to much pressure. happened to me a lot recently and i have yet to figure out what the exact reason was. Thats unneccessarily frustrating, because i would assume that people fixing the broken parts would tell their boss what was damaged and how it probably happened. A little popup or something would fix this. Right now you get no feedback whatsoever besides the shutdown of your powercore, at least to my knowledge. all of this seems easily fixable, because its not about core mechanics of the game, but about information for the player. The mechanics itself are good as far as i can see them, the contracts scale up over time and force the player to figure out ways to improve production, This in itself is enough challenge even without having to guess why your powercore broke down this time. Still will give it a thumps up, because despite the inaccessibility i had a lot of fun so far

The UI is a bit clunky, and could use some more details in the mouse overs. But there is a gem of a game here. Fair warning the learning curve is a bit extreme, but once you get the initial wood burning power plant down, it starts to make sense. The Tutorial information is "enough" to get started, but this would greatly benefit from some explanation of the components values and interaction.
