March 2025
I like Reassembly because you can interact with the world with emergent effects, without being a complicated game like Star Sector. The main resource in this game are purple balls that everyone seems to fight over. They actually drop from plants that grow on asteroids, sprout seeds and die. On the default faction (Terran), you can actually design a ship to chop up asteroids and use the manipulator to drag pieces around. I cut up an asteroid to create a breeding ground where plants could grow all over the place, only to find out later that the my faction's population in said region was flourishing. And never would I have thought to build a fleet of capital ships to wage a war against space cactus. But I did, and its surprisingly satisfying.

Wonderful game that I find utterly relaxing thanks to the music and free-form open-world gameplay. Yet depending on your playstyle it can also be satisfyingly intense, launching rapid salvos in CQC attempting to strike at the enemy's core or break their ship in half. I've only played in singleplayer but the amount of top-tier workshop mods and customization available is perfect. Whether you want to build outlandish garden-warships that grow the resource that allows them to become ever-larger, or if you want to pilot a high-speed missile boat that zips through enemy line cracking battlecruisers in half, there is a faction for you (and plenty of level-up resource for completely changing course with your playstyle early on. My great gratitude to all the developers and modders who make and balance this thoroughly enjoyable game, I have no complaints.

Very much a mess around in the sandbox game and to be clear it's not hard, it's fairly simplistic. It's pretty much a sandbox to explore the different kinds of ships you want to make. I probably would pick it up for say $5, I enjoyed it a lot when I was younger but now that I'm looking for a lot more in games it's hard to suggest that full price. The visuals likewise are simple but they honestly do look fairly pretty in action due to the effects. Everyone says it but I really do think this game could have benefited from some peer to peer multiplayer. As is once you learn the game it's easy to steamroll the AI, conquer territory, and then never receive any push back. With multiplayer you could have potentially face a lot of unique player designed ships since whatever ships you design in this game will start being pushed out by your faction. The devs have a video explaining how ships will be shared between people's games and honestly that's only a half truth. They appear as "unique" agent spawns which are basically one time boss spawns. It's cool but we could've had more.

I loved this game in it's prime but understand that the devs discontinued supporting a couple systems so now the game is kind of broken in those aspects (wormholes (the intended gameplay loop is often broken in some saves, and agents (playermade boss's) only work sort of?)

I absolutely reccomend this game to anyone who has more than 0 creativity and logical thinking. simple but with deep mechanics that took me a long time to understand If the devs (or modders) ever read this review, some things that id like to see added (this applies to the enemy factions too) ship part HP multiplier projectile velocity multiplier Projectile range multiplier Space friction multiplier AI aggro range multiplier Regrowth speed multiplier Ship part scale multiplier Camera zoom uncapped all these put in galaxy settings when starting new or going through a wormhole, by changing them you could create so many different scenarios. would easily triple the playtime of the game! I want 15000 range flagship battles, no regrow, slowly picking off systems from afar! or the opposite, anything is possible!
