This game hits the sweet spot for me in terms of accessibility, pacing, fun, and interesting equipment to play with. The various Regiments have quite a few options with the DLC to customize and call in based on what you need in various tactical situations. I have essentially a potato HP laptop, if I set the priority to 'High' and its affinity to 4 cores, the game runs very well for me. Start and end of a game there's a bit of a hitch while it compiles info and loads but during the game play zero issues or stutter even on high settings but with V-Sync turned off and 90 frames max. For me the AI is tough to beat, doesn't seem brain dead, uses combined arms against you. Playing defense skirmish for example with me as the defender, the AI on Medium probed defenses, conducted a flowing flank around my front line and starting capping points in the rear and then moving forward towards where I'd placed my forward line, forcing me to unhinge. When attacking the AI uses air and artillery to pin/suppress my units, AI also during a flank found my silenced recon and made it a priority to eliminate. Calling in Cobras, once the AI spotted them, it responded immediately with a Air to Air jet tac aid, forcing me to retreat both Cobra units out of harm's way. The integrated functionality of pausing the game and issuing orders really scratches my tabletop hex/counter wargaming itch, I'd compare the game difficulty wise to say medium weight hex/counter rule book, 2-3 steps above 'Beer & Pretzels' type of rules, doesn't feel rock, paper, scissors. For me the single player aspect is a boon rather than a bane. Personally I enjoy pausing, planning my attacks/defenses and then zooming in and following the action for a bit while the units execute my orders, see what develops, then pause again, orders, etc. Gives me a chance to enjoy the action. I've seen some reviews state the game is 'Dead'. I fear they are confusing the term 'Done' with 'Dead'. The game was designed by a single designer plus the help from Microprose partnership. The Dev did quite a few 'Free LCs' plus the Winds of Change paid DLC. This was his stated road map from nigh the beginning it seems reading the updates here. He executed his vision and accomplished his goals. Hence 'Done', not 'Dead'.

This is one of the few modern RTS games that actually manages to achieve a balance of scale vs micromanagement, and for that alone I have to recommend it.

Great singleplayer modern RTS. It retains it's ability to feel intense and arcadey in a healthy balance. I enjoy picking up this game from time to time, there are some QoL changes I'd love to see, mainly UI adjustments. Would definitely recommend, more likely to recommend if on sale

I recommend this game HIGHLY for anyone who wants a casual singleplayer quick RTS to pick up and play. It is detailed with a good variety of units but not WARNO or Broken Arrow or Steel Division 2 Level where there are 5 billion tank variants with the only difference being one crew member has an extra short pinky resulting in some nerf of some kind. Each match is at max, 25-30 minutes if you dont pause or do. The pre-made operations are really fun and the Winds of change DLC is really worth the money as it comes with procedural generated campaigns which are actually really well made and organised and not a bunch of slop slapped together. Buy the game at full price if you want to support the solo dev but it goes on sale pretty often so theres as that. Check out the demo before you buy if you aren't sure I may only have 20 hours of writing this but I see myself playing it alot more and enjoying it alot more so in my eyes, worth it.

Think Wargame/WARNO, but less convoluted due to reduced micromanagement and complete lack of control over aircrafts save for helicopters. There's many quality-of-life features that makes playing the game feel surprisingly stress-free for such a large-scale RTS game. The game itself feels much more grittier and grounded in reality and the campaign gives a very foreboding impression which is further enhanced by the soundtrack. It's a war that began in a way nobody planned for and now neither side can back out.
