Easy to learn, hard to master. You won't struggle with UI as it's exceptionally well made, and as you start to get the hang of tactics more intricate features become visible. It's singleplayer only, but AI seems very much competent in leading the opposing side, be it in battle directly or in dynamic campaigns called "War Paths" (Winds of Change DLC feature). It's pretty much a complete product at this stage, and in recent times updates have slowed down (mainly due to lack of bugs in current build), but Winds of Change expanded the game with airborne troops, couple of new factions and earlier mentioned War Paths mode which is great. Overall a solid recommendation, we need more well-made RTSes like this

Regiments is the perfect "introductory" RTS Wargame. It lacks the mechanical complexity of something like Steel Division, Warno or Broken Arrow, but it gives much of the same experience. 90% of the depth for half the complexity. My girlfriend is not a strategy gamer, but I have been using Regiments to introduce her to the genre, and she has taken to it in a way that would not be possible with a more mechanically complex wargame. This game plays much like Warno, but it simplifies things somewhat through methods like treating mechanized infantry and their APCs as one unit, and calling reinforcements in via "unit cards" with only one instance of each being present on the map at a given time. Both of these design decisions limit the number of units on the map at once, decreasing the CPM (clicks per minute) necessary to keep up. As an added bonus, this game's system requirements are lower than competitors of the same genre. The most recent DLC, "Winds of Change", has added a "conquest" style campaign mode where you lead a regiment of troops over a series of battles with persistent units and casualties, expanding and upgrading your force over the duration of the campaign. This is a huge deal for me, as I enjoy persistent campaigns with progression and force management much more than simple skirmish matches. Performing well will get you the points necessary to repair and upgrade your forces, and you can order reinforcements of your choosing over the course of the campaign, allowing you to tailor your forces to your personal playstyle. You can also choose which encounter type you wish to engage in. This is the rough equivalent of choosing which enemy to attack on a world map, and can result in an easier or harder game depending what your forces are best suited to deal with. Overall, this is a fun, enjoyable RTS wargame. The content may be slightly more sparse than competitors, and there's slightly less depth, but it's way more accessible for players new to the genre, and I can wholeheartedly endorse it as a solid entry in the wargame genre.

We need more cold war RTS like this! It's simpler than other contemporary games out there, yet effective. Particularly enjoying the slower pace which at least to me gives it a more tactical and thoughtful approach. The reinforcement and points system feels more akin to World In Conflict, could be the easy to understand UI. Surprisingly the visuals are pretty good, not exceptional but nice, the detailed effects and physics make it feel alive. For the price this is a great RTS that calls out to the early 2000's, what you see is what you get, no nonsense.

I've tried Eugen’s wargames but found them far too fiddly relying on micromanagement of units. But I have found Regiments to be a more thoughtful take on modern warfare as the pace is slower (though still intense) enabling you to concentrate on the overall approach of the battle. Also the game is much easier to pick up and understand. Really looking forward to the DLC.
