What a hidden gem. This game made me love coding again. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of elements of this game that I don't enjoy (details below). I think anyone who has an interest in coding will find fun and fulfillment in this little game. But in its current state, I don't think I would recommend for anyone that is new to coding, or to anyone that expects a sandbox experience that they can pick up easily. Pros: + "Retro" pixel-arty aesthetic is very well done + Gadget components are fun, and simply messing around with them sparks project ideas Cons: - Menu navigation is fairly unintuitive and frustrating until you spend a couple hours with it - Tutorials are pretty clunky to learn from, especially if you're already challenged by menu navigation - Code editor is truly terrible. Lacking key features like find/replace, navigate to definition, and sometimes falsely reporting syntax errors where there are none. There's no way to get around this by editing your source code in an external editor (in contrast to "The Farmer Was Replaced", which did this decently) Really excited for the campaign mode, and hopefully for new input/output components and customization options. Workshop support for custom gadget components would be a dream.

I wish there was Python. You get Lua instead. But y'know what, it'll do. It'll do. Lua is quite good as well. I'd want some areas to get polished here and there though, in regards to the physical/exterior aspects of decorating and building your gadgets. The coding part of the game is quite good, no complains there. The workshop concept was a genius thing to implement. It's like attending irl hackerspaces but you have the freedom to take copies of peoples work, improve upon them or just take apart and learn. Great to use this game for prototypes before moving onto real hardware, or great for beginners to dip their toes in and see if they wanna level up their programming hobby to the next level (migrating from PC only code, to physical, some day).

I'm honestly amazed this isn't a massively well-known sandbox game on Steam. To the devs, I would definitely recommend adding some more functionality to the gadget-building table, but other than that this game is criminally underrated.

In first two days of me buying the game, I sank 16 hours into it and already started to write a UI library for the screens. Loving it!
