After spending what I feel is an adequate time to make a proper determination, I would say it's a very good game.

Back 8 years ago, I genuinely used to feel crazy for playing Rimworld. Like who are you gonna talk about to about that one crazy pawn who keeps setting your stockroom on fire over not eating at a table? Or about the first time you ever had to deal with a drop pod raid? Despite all that though, I find myself looking back on everything. Not just the game itself, but gaming as a whole. And it opened my eyes to see Rimworld as more than just a game I play, but as a massive project countless amounts of people have put their minds and hearts into. All because of other companies who: - trickle updates out, often leaving core issues for the community to fix/deal with (often coupled with the next bullet point) - shovel disgusting amounts DLC add-ons (sometimes numerous and unimpactful, sometimes unreasonably priced, and sometimes but not often, content that should have been in the base game) - fail to deliver on promises without compromise, or often any communication at all - shut their communities out, choosing stubborn ignorance over listening to the people supporting their project (often choosing a PR stance over a humane one) - re-release the same title with little/no change (I'm lookin at you, Bethesda. ) Ludeon though? They never abandoned Rimworld. They never pushed out cheap and lazy content. They never stopped listening to their community. They put the work in to shoot for the moon, and in turn, it paid off. The game has evolved so much over time, its nothing I would have expected it to be, even outdoing many of the biggest giants in the gaming industry. This game that has stood the test of time in a world full of cashgrabs and broken messes, and I don't believe its something many people recognize. From the diligent work of the bugfixing devs, to every new DLC pack that each adds new ways to build/play your colony...(especially once you begin to combine them, creating complex communities with unique aspects that grow and change as you play); its hard to name many game titles that are this well and thoroughly taken care of on all fronts. And that's not even to mention to absolutely LEGENDARY modding community this game has. The amount of community content that is continued to be added/supported in the workshop can be a bit overwhelming at first, but becomes quite the treasure trove once you begin to get more comfortable with the games mechanics. I'm constantly finding myself adding so many new and amazing mods, just to sit for the next hour trying to sort through and de-conflict mods. (trust me when I say the headache of mod management is WELL worth the catharsis you will experience when you are finally able to play mods without issues) I should wrap this review up though. I wanna really say thank you to the Ludeon Team, though, even if y'all don't read this. Without y'alls hard work and dedication to this game and its community, we would'nt be here with this absolutely stellar game that has brought so many different communities together in one place. And a HUGE thank you to all of the amazing modders who have or continue to add so many ways to spice up the game, y'all are some real g's. And even though I'm just one person writing a review to a sea of distant strangers, y'all have definitely made a difference not only in my life, but in the gaming world as a whole. More than many may initially acknowledge or recognize.

>first colony >struggling to survive >everyone is barely hanging on >love blooms and two colonists get married >the wife is only hanging on thanks to the support of the husband >get raided by an absolute UNIT >everyone is critically injured except the wife >absolute UNIT carries off the husband as a prisoner >wife puts the injured into hospital beds >wife realizes husband is gone >she snaps >sets entire base on fire >critically injured survivors die without care >wife calmly eats a meal alone as the base burns around her >her sanity gone 10/10 would play again

I have long debated how best to write a recommendation for this game. I decided that would be sharing some of my experiences. Fire - Just finishing up the tutorial got my meager crops planted, got my little shack built, everything is fine. It started raining and thunder struck, caused a fire. Red flashing, message pop-ups yes I knew there was a fire but I have 3 pawns they can handle it. Well it took me awhile to learn that back stories and traits can really effect your play through. One pawn was a pyromaniac so no help there, the second a burned child backstory so no chance of getting anywhere near the flames. But I have a third pawn I know I did. At this point I had the game paused looking around the map for them, couldn't find them. I started reading through the messages I didn't know what else to do and as I'm reading through them I finally get to the first message. She had died, a heart attack caused by lighting. Make a note: Check every pawns backstories and traits before starting out. Raids - Planning out a base to build when I get raided, nothing unusual. I have a few hundred hours at this point so I'm not worried. I have cover, better weapons, and more pawns piece of cake. Raid happens, we repel the raiders, raid over right? Well, I thought so. I let my pawns run the run down the fleeing raiders and go back to base planning. Colonist down message pops up, What? why? the raiders were on the run, what happened. Go and look, colonist is missing an eye and the last raider is downed, they are far apart. This confuses me more, I had learned about the logs for actions and events so I start my investigation. My pawn with the sniper had shot at the raider destroying his heart, great. He had shot through the head of the pawn running after the raider, not great. Make a note: Friendly fire isn't friendly, keep melee pawns out of the line of fire. Drop pods - At this point I now have around one thousand hours, I have seen enough to know how to anticipate and prepare for future events, I got this. I now have an abundance of food, meds, and resources. Next step make silver. Step one: Build prison, smooth sailing. Step two: Fill prison, raid happens right as construction finishes *chef kiss* Step three: Operat Enlighten the prisoners through prosthetic means. Medic out on caravan, ok I'll wait. Well their faction really wanted these pawns back. Drop pod raid, panic never had one before, where are they landing, the prison? ok. Watch as the pods punch through the roof, Out pops raiders in power armor, maybe it be best to let them be. Prison break, well that frees all the prisoners, all of them, including one that aren't from the raiding faction. I watch on as the opposing factions break out into a brawl inside my prison walls. Wait does that raider have grenades? Yes and he uses them. So, thing that goes boom + confined space = chaos. I just ended up forbidding my colonists from going into the prison. Since, now it is a full blown inferno. I didn't even bother with cleaning up that part of the map, I just kept it around as a reminder. Make a note: Drop pods scary, Maybe I'll live under a mountain next. I have never build a ship, I don't think I will. I enjoy to attempt to build a city/empire and while I can make this easy, I choose not to, I think I will be playing this game long after I tire of others. To Ludeon Studios : I love this game, Thank you for all the effort you put into it. I will buy this next DLC for full price and gleefully so. Please keep doing what you are doing and I will keep supporting it. * Insert Futurama Fry "Shut up and take my money"
