Sept. 2025
Over the years I heard many things about this game and none of them wee good. I am not a sheep (last time I checked) so I will provide my opinion here, they call it a review for some reason. Rise of the Triad is not that bad if you ask me. I had more fun than in some new shooters. The original game was not that good so this remake or what ever thy call it is also not taking itself seriously. Let's start with negatives first. There are many bugs and glitches that could ruin your time with this shooter. Most common bug is getting stuck/soft locked on something, usually it is the floor but it can be any object that isn't moving. Solution,if you have a rocket launcher you can fire a rocket beneath you and it might work. If you don't have one you will have to restart from checkpoint or last quicksave. Speaking of quicksaves, they were implemented post launch and they will work in most cases. Sometimes quicksaves will just not load, I really don't know why so consider this while you are quicksavi.ng. Enemy AI is decent but they can just stand frozen at times. Glitches are funny, I will not go into details so let's just say they are present in this game. Platforming is the worst part of this game. It is awful and frustrating. The less I say about it the better. The spread damage from you heavy weapons like rocket launcher, bazooka etc is laughable. It is almost impossible to determine how far away you have to be to avoid damage. These are all major negatives. If you can ignore them than you might find something in this game like I did. WARNING - If you didn't play the original than you will most likely not dislike this game. When you launch the game the default option is set to run on 32 bit systems. You must set in to 64 bit to avoid performance issues and more bugs. The graphics look worse on high and ultra, I played on medium because the Unreal Engine 3 is at it's worst in this game. Play this on medium difficulty to avoid further frustrations, The game plays like a standard boomer shooter. You can jump and crouch in this remake (you couldn't in the original), jump is almost never useful in combat so you will use it for the awful platforming. I used crouch for secrets only. Level design is generic but ok for a 2013 shooter. The shooting feels ok, really fun game play once you get used to it. Most of the guns make a return with some new additions. I liked the shotgun, maybe just because the original game didn't have one :) Almost all weapons have primary and secondary mods. You will discover which are useless very fast. The guns are fun to use if you ask me. The powers also make a return. You got some slight variations on some of them but they are mostly the same as in the original game. In this remake you will find most of the powers in secret areas and that is one major difference from the original. In the original ROTT you could find them everywhere but in the remake they are rare if you don't find secret areas. Speaking of secrets, they are very well designed and very well hidden. The bosses are better in this remake and the enemies are more aggressive in general. Some of them can even steal your heavy weapon which I found hilarious. Traps also make a return, some can be a real pain in the ass. All in all a good game. I know I am in minority but I don't care. I like this game despite the major flaws. That being said I would recommend this game ONLY if you played the original. This game is often on sale and I would recommend getting it at 80 to 90 % off.. Do not pay the full price.

A good game, but not as good as ludicrous and dark war. There's some minor annoying jank, collision messes with you a lot, and has no controller support for Dualsense?

it's a pretty cool shooter if you have nothing else to play. The guns feel good to fire, the soundtrack is amazing. You should get it if you like old school shooters like doom or quake

Rating this game as good is like rating Postal 2 as good. It is what it is. There is enjoyment to be had but on many levels this game is quite bad. However after blasting through all 20 levels on easy difficulty I was pleasantly surprised to be honest. If you have no nostalgia for the original game you are probably going to absolutely hate this game. It is buggy, the shooting is kinda average and the jumping sections can become quite tedious. However, if you do have nostalgia for the original then this game really does stick close to the source material and you can have a good time with it. Note a major bug I had in 2024 was just trying to load the game. Double click on steam to load and nothing happens... well if you wait 5mins the game eventually does load. Just to check its still doing something you can check it in task manager under the name "Ludicrous Game".

This game is actually really epic!!!! I absolutely loved it. The level design is gorgeous, and it really does feel like Rise of the Triad. I absolutely recommend it to fans of the original.
