downloaded Road 96 without really knowing what it was ended up driving across the country meeting the most random people ever every trip somehow feels completely different one minute i’m having a normal conversation next minute everything goes completely wrong the characters are actually so memorable and the music is way too good finished the game and immediately wanted to start again 10/10 definitely recommend this game Much better than the newest one
This is a good game, catching the vibes of 96 in the perfect way. Visually it looks stunning and had a unique way of storytelling, kinda rogue-lite style, which blends perfectly with the strong characters. No run is the same and they flesh out the story and characters more, but eventually it gets repetitive. A nice relaxing game with one of the best soundtrack list! Edit : It kinda grows boring and the more I played the less consequence the dialog seems to have on any of the story aspects.. Also even though the vibes of 96 are good, the overall road trip feel is very lacking, which is what it's supposed to be about..
BEST GAME THAT I HAVE EVER PLAYED The game has a beautiful, simple, yet emotionally capturing artstyle, which highlights the world around, experienced by teens, elegantly. How accurate some of the movements of landscape, cars, trucks, characters, are? They aren't always the best, but it doesn't matter, because the core of it all matters, rather than if the tires of a truck move correctly. Art - 4.5/5 The design, and the mechanics of the game are very integrated to the visuals, making a smooth experience. And the idea that every single trip is different, based on your choices, it makes the game feel like...it lives. Very, very, very rarely, the options float with some very rapidly moving characters, possibly making you misclick at the wrong option that you didn't want to choose, but this is, as I said, is quite rare, so it will not affect the rating. Game Design & Mechanics - 5/5 As for sound design, I do not know anything about sound design in general, but I do like the voice actors! >X3 Sound Design/Voice actors - 4/5 And at last, but not least, the story. SPOILER FREE! I think, the story is so memorable, rebellious, fun, and even, very beautiful. All of the characters have very touching backgrounds, and as they are not superheroes, they are just ordinary people, making the characters feel very real and living. The idea of making the game about teens, people who should be having fun with friends and growing up in a safe place, gives the feeling of extreme empathy towards the characters. Amazing slow worldbuilding which makes you immerse in to the mysterious and twisted world of Petria. Story - 5/5 CONCLUSION The game is an artistically beautiful and immersive game, filled with beautiful moments, hard choices, and fun interactions. The game goes deep under you skin, as you create an emotional bond with the characters. Something so familiary about this game. The art style reminded me of firewatch and the whole feel of the game gave me like life is strange vibes. at times the game feels very cozy and chill but the story is rather dark. For me the characters are great. They feel so alive with their own personality. Zoe being my fav. The whole game revoles areound them. I really liked the unique episodic approach. Every episode eventually connects and leads to meaningful final decisions. Although I noticed some flaws with the timelines and dates (the game isn’t completely accurate in that regard), it’s pretty negligible and didn’t ruin my experience. I cant say anymore without spoiling the story but i highly recommend. 4/5
