For those wanting to play, it DOES work, just not straight out of the box. There's a mod you can get where you add an extra DLL to the game files so that you can use your guitar plugging it into your USB audio interface, but if you don't have the original cable, you MUST HAVE AN AUDIO INTERFACE to plug in your instrument. I use the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6. Many people use the Focusrite.

Great Game! but there is a few issues that need fixing and I have solutions.(please read this review before deciding to refund the game.) I have struggled for a couple months to get the game working properly and fixed everything that was giving me issues! If you're game is white screening and then not even launching the start menu, it means there is an audio driver or audio software that is messing with rocksmith, to fix this, download RS_Mods and RS_ASIO(you can google both of these) and then you should be able to set the audio devices interacting with Rocksmith within the RS_ASIO menu, If you're using a usb microphone for your guitar, make sure to check "use WASAPI Input". If you are making it past the start menu but the game crashes after you select a profile. It means that one of the audio devices interacting with the game is not set for 48kHz recording. You can access this in windows settings and this should fix it. If you're microphone(communication, not guitar) stops working after starting the game, you can go into windows settings and then disable "give exclusive access to apps" for the mic. As an optional addition to this, If you wanted to play with custom music. Then you can use fan made CDLC(custom DLC), there is a mod for it and a community at Customsforge! I won't write an in depth tutorial for each of these, as these exist already if you google search them, but this should give anybody a good place to start. I hope this helps anybody give rocksmith a shot, because it definitely is a fun and cool way to learn guitar. Please like this review for visibility!

helps with the basics of guitar. I would still recommend learning to read tab or proper sheet music, but you can get good at the technique by playing this game. If you ACCIDENTALY downloaded a cracked, pirated version of the game with all the DLC, you could ACCIDENTALY move the DLC folder from that version to the DLC folder of this version and HYPOTHETICALLY not have to pay for any of the DLC.

Explain this game in a sentence? "Guitar Hero with real guitar" I've been playing this for few years on and off but I gotta say that CDLC (a.k.a custom songs mod) is the best thing about this game, even though the legality might be debatable, but it keeps the game and its community alive for years even now in 2025. This game got delisted in 2023 because I think they wanted to push Rocksmith+ (which IMO was Ubisoft's biggest flop ever lol) to have more players, but it also got a re-release the next year haha. I'm impressed for what the game can do, I mean guitar is kind of complicated instrument to translate into digital, it has palm muting, hammer-on, pull-off and a lot more techniques to play, but this game can detect them pretty well, not perfectly of course, because it still relies on notes detection and guitar is an instrument with repeating notes so it can be played without following string and fret positioning as long as you play the right notes (even technically it can be played with keyboards). Today I found out that I can emulate bass internally with it, so I guess I don't need to buy a bass that I won't use lol. There is a workaround that can improve the game by A LOT, I have Reaper (a DAW) that can be used alongside this, most songs I play are played in like 10+ variations of tunings, changing tunings can be a tricky thing especially if you don't have 10+ guitars which I don't, so I can change tuning with a pitch shifter VST in Reaper to pre-process my guitar input before it goes into Rocksmith. Bad things about this game are the functionality as a windows program: lack of borderless windowed mode, audio output cannot be captured by screen recorder (without workaround), it's always on top, so other program can't be overlayed on top of it, setting some things required to modify .ini files in the game directory. Also, Real Tone Cable is not required, you can use an audio interface thanks to the modder who made it possible, or a microphone if you're crazy (jk, but you actually can).

Amazing but get mods to make it way more fun and actually playable (the re-released version which I have, sucks because of the expiring licences for songs so mods are your only option
