Sail forth is a naval game set in its own world full of little islands. I am not sure whether the world is procedurally generated or pre-build, but it is a large world to explore. In this game you sail around with your ship in a simplified realistic manner. You have to take the wind into account and change the direction of your sails so you can best make use of this wind. Ships with different sail configurations also handle this differently giving them a somewhat realistic point of sail. Don't worry if you don't know in what way to set the sail, there is a small slider on the screen that gives you an idea of where to move your sail to. On the compass as well is a representation of the best point for your ship to sail to compared to the wind. It is very beginner friendly. However your ship will come to a stop when trying to sail directly into the wind, but the game has a solution that is often ignored in naval games of this era of the age of sail, oars. Yes, you can use oars to row your boat around. It will be more slowly than using sails most of the time, but you won't be effected by the wind when doing so. The combat is somewhat arcadish and simplified, but intense. Naval combat is more akin to Assassin's Creed Black Flag than Naval Action, but works really well. Weapon selection is very simple. You have a set amount of different guns in different qualities. It is very simple and for what I have seen so far (11 hours) you won't have more than 10 or maybe 20 across your whole ship on the largest ships available. You will fight many different ships and also monsters and sea creatures. Boarding is also an option and you can capture enemy ships to enhance your fleet. And while the graphics are also simplified, they are quite beautiful. With varieties of wildlife around that you also have to photograph to unlock new graphics for your flags and sails. You will be able to catch fish which you can then trade in for different colours to paint your ship, sails and flags. And there are various other ships and options to customize your ships available in this game. All of the crew is visually on deck and since crew numbers are quite low compared to real sailing ships, but that makes management of said crew much easier and adds to the overall charm of the game. Overall I think this game is a nice relaxing naval game with occasional battles set in a fantasy age of sail setting and I can highly recommend it.

An excellent single player experience. Lots to explore and do. Frequent updates to the game even with it being rather underground. You can tell that the dev cares about the game.

diaspora of ships on display, and unlike a lot of the other 'sims' on steam that over focuses on fully rigged, square sailed slop, this has a lot of brilliantly proportioned and detailed fore and aft designs. absolute rig-porn. (i made that up) combat is arcade-y but there's enough nuance to have different builds. the tech tree for unlocks is good. it can be slow at points, but you can also get by perfectly well boarding and capturing enemy (or unsuspecting) ships for their kit. Aiming could feel better, you're given a 2-d cone that represents the weapon's field of attack but not given any choice as to the vertical angle you fire it at. I concede that may just be an oversight so that combat doesn't feel too clunky, but sometimes I feel i miss shots that i might otherwise hit, given more control. writing is light-hearted and whimsical. The sound design is pared back and uncluttered when compared to many other sailing games. visual art direction is a high point: both timeless and eye catching. Visual clarity's great. Design of the ships, again, cannot be overstated how well it's done. The story progression is cool and some of the fights have more depth to them than i thought a naval game could have. overall? worth it at full price. easily. it's a very, very 'cozy' game and I will show it to my friends whenever the opportunity presents itself.
