The game is good, has some bugs and things messed up right now but i trust the devs will get to it. I do recommend the game to anyone, but i also have some feedback on things I've noticed as pain points / suggestions. Spoilers below Suggestions: 1) There should be a way to upgrade cleaning the gunk off fish, the later fish are pretty big and the sponge is still the same small sponge. Larger sponge / maybe a hose or something would be nice. 2) When you complete an area and new customers can appear, they can take quite a long time to appear. I had an instance where I completed every single upgrade in an area, all the shop unlocks, etc. And still didn't have all the customers. I'd suggest having them be much more likely to appear while they're undiscovered. Since at that point I had nothing new to discover, explore, or unlock. Just repeatedly trying to get the specific new customer. 3) It doesn't make sense that we fully clean the fish of barnacles and scales and parasites, only to then cut off areas that were covered. Like why am I cleaning the barnacle or parasite off this fish's fin or head, when I am going to just cut the fin / head off later. Same with like if you accidentally make a cut on the head, why does that matter? Why am I even descaling the head? IMO it would be a lot nicer, feel better, and mimic real life, if you cut the fish down to just it's body first, and then descaled / debarnacled / deparasited it. I can see an argument for needing to clean all the gunk off every part, but not the other processes. 4) I would love to have the ability to check my progress towards every fish perfectly cleaned. I'm pretty sure I have done every fish, but maybe I missed one, I can't check though. The achievement might be bugged, but also I know there could be a hidden fish, since I found the hidden Red Herring, not sure if there's another one of those somewhere. All in all an amazing game!

It's pretty fun, albeit repetitive. something to casually enjoy when you have time to waste. My only complaint is that every time I get to a new zone its a reset of basically everything I earned in the last zone which makes the game even more repetitive.

tl;dr Scale the Depths has a simple but satisfying gameplay loop, with incremental gameplay that unfortunately in some places feels a little rough, but is overall a game I thoroughly enjoyed. And honestly? There's a free demo. 100%, go play that, and I recommend a purchase as well once you've done so. The Yappy Version There's a lot I love about Scale, but I do have a few nitpicks, performance issues, and frustrations, as listed below. Pros: [*]Controlling the line around underwater feels like I have a lot more direct and immediate control over what I want to get than many fishing games, and feels pretty smooth in general -- especially with a few upgrades under your belt. [*]Upgrades are straightforward to understand and all good, meaning you can customize for whatever you feel you need in that current moment. [*]Subjective, but I think the art style is great, and gets across the essence of every environment and fish without having the former be too distracting. [*]Subjective again, but I love the theming. There's some basic customers in every area, but there's also mythical creatures like kelpies, selkies, and so much more. I love seeing new customer critters pop up and discovering what else is wandering around and waiting for me to feed them. [*]Also subjectively, but every environment I've reached so far (two, admittedly, but seems to hold true from the previews too) looks really satisfying and the second area in particular has fantastic music that really makes it feel upbeat and enjoyable. [*]The de-scaling minigame is honestly just really satisfying IMO. It's simple, but just... I don't know how to explain it man, it just feels good to do. Same with the chopping. Cons: [*]Sometimes I get framedrops/performance hiccups specifically when the game zooms out on the chopping board to a larger fish. The legendary creature in zone 1 is particularly bad for this, and while it's only brief, it's still a little annoying and noticeable compared to the smooth gameplay elsewhere. [*]The vast majority of your upgrades seem not to travel with you from zone to zone (again, only at the second, but almost nothing transferred). This means that you go from being able to catch whatever you want and chilling out in one zone, to being almost powerless in the next. Money also doesn't transfer, so you can't just farm a bit more in the previous one to get a smoother start in the next. (Would be nice if it partially transferred; exchange rates being lowered by currency exchanges or something?) This is my biggest complaint about the game, because it's just frustrating to essentially have to restart completely in a new zone as if time you've spend maxing the previous zone means absolutely nothing . [*]Maybe it's just me, but I have trouble remembering some of the preferences of customers, or discovering some of them to begin with. You can go in and via a field manual, but that takes multiple clicks of opening the field manual, turning to the customers page, clicking the right customer, and only then is it displayed. That sounds pretty trivial, but if you're having to do it regularly, it gets pretty old pretty quick. It would be nice if, once discovered, an animal had a thought bubble or something to indicate the preferences you'd discovered. [*]Honestly, some of the fish cleaning minigames I just find annoying. (barnacles and parasites mostly.) It's not the end of the world, but it's a minor, subjective nitpick. I very, VERY much enjoyed my experience in Loch Ness (zone 1), but then had it plummet on realizing I had basically no progress at all carry over to zone 2. I do think I'll be back to enjoying it again after a couple upgrades, but that's definitely something I'd keep in mind if you're picking this game up. I hit that EASILY within an hour though, so you'll certainly be able to spend some time there within the 2h refund window if you aren't sure for yourself whether it will put you off or not. Conclusion I realize it probably looks like I have more negative criticisms than positive, but in all honestly, the majority of the negatives were very minor (except for the progress reset on zone switch, but I think I'll get over that), whereas the positives greatly outweigh those negatives. I've very much been enjoying Scale the Depths, and since there's a free demo to test for yourself and only a $10 price point even on the full game, I honestly recommend it whole-heartedly despite my nitpicks and criticisms.
