Honestly during sales it's really worth giving it a try. Although I'm not used to the camera rotation with keyboard :/ Depending on your play style, if you enjoy gaming yourself you will still like this game :) I like spending 7 days in base going no where else, just farm materials and make my base sturdy before I go for a long journey :D

Scrapnaut is a distinctive entry in the survival-sandbox genre, a game that trades the gritty realism of most survival experiences for a whimsical yet industrial steampunk world seen from an isometric perspective. Developed by SpiffyBit and published by RockGame S.A., it invites players into a world of brass gears, mechanical ruins, and wide-open wilderness where ingenuity and adaptation determine how long you last. Rather than focusing on constant combat or fast-paced survival tension, Scrapnaut emphasizes exploration, resource management, and creative base-building. The result is a slower, more methodical adventure that mixes survival mechanics with elements of farming, crafting, and automation, creating a setting that feels both harsh and strangely cozy. The game begins with a simple premise: after a crash-landing in a desolate region filled with hostile machines, the player must build a self-sufficient base to survive. From the first few minutes, the environment establishes its tone—a world that feels simultaneously abandoned and alive. The rusted machinery and strange structures scattered across the landscape suggest a civilization long gone, while the mechanical enemies that roam the land remind you that danger still lurks around every corner. You start small, scavenging scrap and ore to craft the basic necessities of life—tools, furnaces, generators, and oxygen tanks—before slowly expanding your territory into a functioning home base complete with farmlands and automated systems. Every step forward requires attention to resources, with food, energy, and oxygen becoming central to survival. It’s a balancing act between exploration and sustainability, forcing the player to decide when to venture into dangerous areas and when to retreat and fortify. One of Scrapnaut’s defining strengths is its flexibility in tone and difficulty. Players can choose between a more traditional survival experience with hostile robots and limited resources or switch to a peaceful mode that removes raids and combat entirely, allowing them to focus purely on crafting, farming, and exploration. This duality makes the game accessible to both fans of challenging survival games and players who prefer relaxing creativity. The base-building system is extensive, encouraging experimentation with power grids, automated devices, and defensive structures. Farming also plays a major role, tying into the oxygen and food systems in a way that keeps the player invested in maintaining an efficient ecosystem. The progression system is straightforward but rewarding; as you unlock new crafting stations and technologies, your base gradually transforms from a humble outpost into a sprawling mechanical hub buzzing with productivity. Visually, Scrapnaut’s steampunk aesthetic is charming and cohesive. The world is bright yet rugged, blending natural landscapes with metallic remnants of industry. The top-down camera captures the scale of your growing settlement while offering a clear view of your surroundings during exploration or combat. The soundtrack adds to the atmosphere with understated ambient melodies and the rhythmic hum of machinery, striking a balance between calm and unease. The result is an environment that feels handcrafted rather than procedural, a world that invites curiosity even if it doesn’t always surprise. When exploring new biomes, the player encounters subtle variations in scenery—lush forests, desolate deserts, and mist-covered fields—all connected through teleportation stations that encourage deeper forays into the unknown. Where Scrapnaut occasionally stumbles is in its pacing and mechanical depth. While the initial hours are engaging—filled with discovery, resource gathering, and the excitement of building a sustainable base—the sense of progression can flatten as time goes on. Once your defenses are solid and resources plentiful, the loop of gathering, crafting, and maintaining loses urgency. The combat system, though functional, lacks complexity; enemy AI is simple, and encounters often feel repetitive. Base raids by mechanical foes can be tense early on but eventually become routine, undermining the thrill of survival. The absence of a substantial narrative also limits the game’s emotional momentum. There’s a faint storyline about rebuilding and surviving in a world overtaken by machines, but it serves more as background context than an evolving plot. The game’s focus on systems over storytelling gives players freedom but also leaves the world feeling a bit hollow once its mechanics are mastered. Despite these shortcomings, Scrapnaut succeeds in delivering a distinctive and enjoyable experience within its niche. Its greatest achievement is the freedom it offers: the ability to tailor the game’s difficulty, to shape your world at your own pace, and to pursue either solitude or cooperation in multiplayer mode. It captures the satisfaction of watching a carefully planned base come to life, with every pipe, generator, and garden contributing to a self-sustaining network. It’s a game about finding peace in productivity, about carving stability from chaos rather than constantly fighting against it. For players who find joy in building, optimizing, and exploring rather than chasing linear objectives, Scrapnaut delivers a quietly rewarding journey. It may not have the narrative ambition or mechanical polish of larger survival titles, but its charm, atmosphere, and creative spirit make it a worthwhile adventure for anyone drawn to the art of invention and survival in a world of rust and steam. For the 3 bucks I paid? Yeah worth it. Even though I think it's a one and done kinda game. Meaning once I beat it, I don't expect to replay it. There's just no automation to make gathering and refining less time consuming. And the robots attack EVERYTHING, so making kill boxes to funnel them into turrets is worthless. Making a base only worth having, outside the one safe mining zone before getting to the lab, is if you have enough materials farmed to make 4 wind turbines, 8 batteries, and 16 copper or better turrets. Even going up tiers in tools doesn't really increase the mining and tree chopping much.

I think that Scrapnaut is an OK game and a great game when you consider the price. I played the game using a controller and I choose the setting peaceful to avoid the constantly recurring base raids - otherwise I would have hated the game. Game is mainly about exploring , finding resources for next step, fetching what's asked , while fighting bots. To some degree repetitive but with enough variety that it didn't feel like major chores. I have played the game for around 50 hours in relaxed style before it being finished. Apart from weapons and pleanty of food for hunger/healing then it's nice to have some red crystal in inventory for that occasion (a tank of oxygen is nice to have also)

I completed the game in approximately 8 hours with a friend, and overall, it was a great co-op experience. The game features survival, crafting, and some combat mechanics. While enjoyable, it does have some areas that could be improved. The map can be a bit confusing, and there are minor bugs, but nothing that significantly affects gameplay. Towards the end, the game becomes a little repetitive, but for just $2, it's a great deal. If you're looking for a budget-friendly co-op game to play with a friend, I’d recommend it!
