You there, reading this. Feel the weight of people's expectations on your shoulders? Have an overbearing, controlling father who claims to be doing what's best for you? Have any friends that you've felt drift away from you as they try to live up to what the people around them expect of them? Every get told to "grow up" or "man up"? You should play this game. It's a short and sweet game, with some excellent retro vibes, but it's more than that. If you answered yes to any of the above, you might relate to this game especially deeply. You're not alone. The world is a scary place, and sometimes it can feel like you're trapped and confused and scared. You're not alone. Reach out to people, talk to them. It's okay to question things about yourself that you never thought to question before. It's a touching game. Tugged on my heart strings a little there. I've been in Alex's place at points in my life, more or less. The game is about discovering you're transgender, and trying to cope with that, but it doesn't shy away from other similarly related topics, especially childism (prejudice against children). This is to the games great credit, since the belittling and discrimination of children and teens (and the hierarchical, paternalisitic, patriarchal tendencies this creates within families) is a major factor in why transgender youth are at such risk. Alex is lucky in this regard that ultimately, (bware: story spoilers) her father ultimately sees the folly of his ways in the end, and it's revealed that Alex has another parent to rely on . That's not the case for everyone, and the sooner the liberation of children from the yoke of the patriarchal nuclear family, the sooner that children everywhere can rest easier knowing they have options, a choice. Anyway, 10/10, seriously just play the game it's like 3 hours long it's worth it lmao.
"idk idk this is all way out of my depth & im surprised I made it this far ;_; ;_;" In the age of "anti-woke" garbage, stuff like this is comforting. This is clearly a deeply personal story, and likely will hold at least some personal connection to a player. It is at the surface level, another "on your 'puter" games, which are always lovely - but this tale in particular is different. It confronts gender, parental conflict and just belonging in ways both pleasant and sad. The story is short enough that a single night was enough to get through it and it didn't feel too long. Some of the character interactions were a little...off at times? Nothing that ruined the experience, but a few times it felt as if things were really awkward out of nowhere, to slightly unrealistic escalation. The ending was sweet, but had a weird "your powers combined" moment that I suppose fits the Sailor Moon inspiration, but took away from Alex's agency. Overall, a very sweet game and cheap enough that you're certainly not losing out with it. Amusingly, one of the rare games where the player shares my name as well.
