So... I’ve played the game for about 10 hours now, with two characters already at level 100+, and you know what? This is actually a pretty fun mini-ARPG with A LOT of potential. The game has a unique style, the gameplay is enjoyable, and there are definitely things here that made me want to keep playing. The music is also really nice in some areas and adds a lot to the atmosphere. That being said, there are some pretty big problems right now — but honestly, that’s okay. These are things that can be worked on, and I really hope the developers continue pushing the game forward. First: At level 100, you basically have all the skills for your build unlocked and most of them are automated through your attacks. Because of that, there isn't really much build development left. Even with synergies and triggers, I feel like there’s not enough room to create truly different builds or meaningfully develop your character. Second: There are a lot of items in the game, but once you reach around level 60 and start pushing endgame, the loot pool feels very limited. Yellow items and sets become the main things worth looking for, while a lot of the other items don't feel particularly exciting or meaningful. Third: The endgame needs more things to do and learn. Right now, there isn't really a boss-hunting system, challenging encounters, Uber-style bosses, or interesting mechanics that make you want to master the endgame. It feels more like a Greater Rift-style system where you're mostly just pushing higher numbers. Fourth: The Paragon board feels pretty boring and soulless right now. It doesn't give me that feeling of building a unique character or making interesting decisions about my progression. But despite all of that... I’m still having fun. The game has a pretty unique identity, the gameplay feels good, and I genuinely think there is something here worth building on. I think the biggest question the developers need to ask themselves is: “Why should players keep playing?” What is the long-term goal? What are we chasing? What makes us want to push one more level, kill one more boss, find one more item, or create one more character? If the developers can answer that question and build the endgame around it, I honestly think this game could become something really special. 🔥 There’s a good foundation here. Now give us a reason to keep pushing.

Easiest thumbs up recommendation for this delightful diablo-astlibra-esque arpg. So many levels and bosses and equipment. If you are looking for a single player aprg experience like diablo 2/grim dawn, but more paperdoll aesthetics, this is the new king. edit: an additional 5 hours in, the itemization is just insane. So many different build options open up because some equipment comes with abilities that change how an entire skill works or has it proc/synergize with abilities that don't normally. Autoloot and autosalvage is so helpful to save time so I spend significantly less time managing inventory which is typically a common problem with these type of games. Just absolutely fantastic. Dev hit this one out of the park and deserves all the good things coming their way.

The fact that a $10 game is more fun than most modern AAA ARPGs is both hilarious and a little depressing.

Alongside games like Chronicon and Torchlight, this game is the more casual experience in the ARPG market. It's not heavily weighted down by trade values or currency. You pick it up, you play it, follow a relatively linear path with sets of mobs, you kill, loot, level up and that's it. It doesn't need to live up to the behemoth titles in the arena. It's just meant to enjoy as a fun game and I think it checks a lot of boxes for the nostalgic feeling of just picking up a game and playing it for fun.

Finally, something to play in between POE2. Good game. It shows what a solo developer can achieve when they aren't confused about identity issues like a lot of big developers nowadays. No one will read my review, so I will play D4 for one hour for every like it gets.
