I appreciate that the developers learned from some mistakes and it seems they listened to some legitimate feed-back from the players. The result is that Contracts 2 has improved the 2 greatest flaws of Contracts 1: - they made aiming/sniping easier, because know it's more like in the Sniper Elite series ( with some visual aids ), so that makes sniping and in consequence the whole game much more fun and it helps with keeping stealth, - they lessened their previous stick rule of no game saving when you are engaged in combat. Know when you start engaging enemies and taking then out the game indeed saves, and that makes things so much easier and much less frustrating. Also in other aspects this is a very solid game: the graphics is excellent, the story is ok, there is a skill upgrade system that is also improved from the previous title. The sound effects are good, the dialogues and music are decent. The missions are fun, and the campaign is a bit longer then Contracts 1. Most of the facultative challenges are still a little obnoxious and obviously with the intention to make the player have more then 1 playthrough ( because some contradict each other ). They even made the medium difficulty setting more approachable, which is another proof that they reacted to the player's feedback. All this is enough of a reason to give Contracts 2 a positive review, which wasn't the case with the previous game.
I can't believe they've released several games on the same engine, yet the mouse movement still feels awful in all of them. Even with the sensitivity turned all the way up, the mouse still feels sluggish and unresponsive. It's really noticeable, especially in a game where precise movement and aiming are important. The checkpoint system also annoys me. Can we please bring back quicksaving like we had 20+ years ago? It was simple and worked great. I honestly don't see why modern games can't just have it as an option. I'm not going to give the game a thumbs down because it can still be fun, and the graphics are actually pretty good. It's just a bit of a missed opportunity for me. The game would be so much better with more responsive mouse controls and a proper quicksave system.
This game gives me mixed feelings... i honestly think its broken. Its really frustrating but its fun. Sometimes its confusing since they dont really show you whats claimable or anything like that, they have markings that hint at it but sometimes its tossed around and the AI is dumb. I like to use tnt to lure enemies away. The explosion can be in a 2 mile radius and they'll go straight to your location. The rock climbing is buggy and you'll die a lot. The good is the gameplay is entertaining, when its working as intended you'll have a lot of fun the story is ok visuals are really good for an old game.
