Shadow is a character who is so edgelord and cringe that he wraps all the way back around to being extremely cool. I like when he does the thing where he clenches his hand and looks at it. This game rules. Also Rouge is in it.

8/10 [EN] Two Games in One Before I begin to talk about this game, I must say that I haven't played the original version of Sonic Generations yet, just this remaster. This game not only contains the remaster of that one, but also a new game, Shadow Generations! The keyboard controls are a bit weird at the start (for both Sonic and Shadow), but I changed them and quickly got used to them. The gameplay is very fast-paced, like every Sonic game, so it's also a matter of getting the hang of it. Sonic also has two types of gameplay - the modern (camera behind him) and the classic (platformer style, like the original games) - and both can be swapped between levels. I personally found the Shadow gameplay much better, more fluid and more satisfying, with those cool upgrades (the Doom Powers), but that's just my opinion. I mean, hell, at some point you can fly, surf, and morph into a black and red blob. Story-wise, I also found Shadow's side much more emotive (although edgy), while Sonic's side is more friendly and colorful, although both stories are connected to one common enemy. Some maps are really beautiful, but Kingdom Valley (from Shadow Generations) is definitely my favorite! All the maps have replay value - different ways, two acts on each map, and collectibles to unlock cool stuff like concept art, lore, and soundtracks. I just have to advise that some maps can be a little rage inducing. The soundtrack is peak, but I wish they also included "Without You" by Casey Lee Williams, the song they used in the mini-series "Dark Beginnings".

This is a weird release, I mean, Shadow Generations is a whole new game, meanwhile Sonic Generations is the old same game from back when that dual boots from the title screen. The final boss of Sonic Generations is underwhelming compared to Shadow Generations but besides that is a great game, worth the price of admission and I really love how the series is always to improve its storytelling and fixing certain confusing things with the lore. Anyways, if you get bored boot up Sonic Generation and play on the Casino Night Zone Pinball, man, I sure pured hours playing that when I was younger.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is two games in one: A slightly enhanced port of Sonic Generations (originally released 2011) and Shadow Generations , a brand new entry starring everyone's favorite spiky anti-hero. Sonic Generations is the same great game that it was back when it was released; a mix of exciting 2D and 3D gameplay celebrating Sonic's history, featuring recreations of fan favorite stages from previous games, and numerous challenges. Other than re-recorded dialogue (the story is an excuse plot anyway), the Drop Dash, some improved textures, and the inclusion of Chao as additional things to find, it's otherwise almost identical to the original release. Missed opportunity to improve the somewhat clunky Classic Sonic controls or add an extra stage or two, but still the game that Sonic fans loved back in 2011. As such, my gripes with the stiff 2D controls and the game's short length remain, but the rest is otherwise very good stuff overall. Also worth nothing that you can't unlock the original Sonic the Hedgehog like you could in the original Generations. Shadow Generations uses a similar 2D/3D hybrid style for gameplay. Shadow's got his own arsenal of moves, some being iconic while others are all-new. To compensate for Shadow having less iconic levels to pull from compared to Sonic, his game contains a sizable hub area loaded with challenges and optional items to search for. It truly feels like you're Shadow himself when you're going around freezing time and warping from one enemy to another. Boss battles are few but memorable, all requiring a drastically different strategy to defeat. The serviceable (albeit not great) story, tight level design, incredible graphics & soundtrack, improved controls compared to Sonic Frontiers, and tons of collectibles all come together to make Shadow Generations an excellent game and well deserving of its hype. I just wish we had a little more of it; why no stages from Shadow the Hedgehog? Overall, SxS is a great package with two of the best Sonic games to date. Definitely worth grabbing if you're into Sonic or platformers in general, and haven't played either. Even if you have played Sonic Generations previously like I have, it's worth it for Shadow Generations alone, and the former still holds up well.

Its like Bowsers fury for the switch with the shadow levels and its a lot like base game generations but with improved and added mechanics to make it feel like your character has a little more weight than traditional sonic runner. Buyer beware shadow does not use his trademark AK-47 or use his catchphrase "Damn" or shoot people in the face. 8/10
