A Cool Little Comeback It's nothing outstanding or revolutionary like how Super Meat Boy is one of the games that created the "indie game" genre, it's not as well designed as the original, or doesn't play that well. But Super Meat Boy 3D is a good attempt to a genre which is very dry these days. The controls are pretty good, the art designs is vibrant and unique, the levels are well-designed and the gameplay is fun. But the perspective issues that come with the angle of the hurts the overall experience. Still, a pretty fun experience and I would like to see this studio do more 3D platformers with a higher budget. PLEASE TURN OFF 45-DEGREE SNAPPING - Why is this even on by default? As a 3D platformer lover, I really enjoyed this. Having fully completed all levels with an A+ rank, I can say that the level designs are quite good and it's a lot of fun to play. Highly recommended for fans of the original game.

TLDR: If you liked the original Super Meat Boy game then I highly recommend trying this one. You'll know within an hour or two if the 3D-ness is for you or not. (Also turn off 45 degree turning in the settings). The original Super Meat Boy is one of my favorite "important" games to me. It was the game that opened up the world of "Indie Games" to me and also showed me that just because a game seems impossibly difficult doesn't mean that there isn't fun to be had overcoming that challenge. In a weird way I think it even got me to get into souls-like games too. I loved it so much I 100% Golden God-ed the game. When "Super Meat Boy Forever" was announced I was excited. I followed development and even though I knew it was an auto-runner and had other gameplay changes, I had high hopes for more of that challenging fun Meat Boy experience. In the end it was a bit of a let down. I still beat the game, but didn't feel like going after all the completion. The new gameplay was just too different and not as enjoyable as the original (to me at least). I found the game "The End is Nigh" to be a better spiritual successor. When Super Meat Boy 3D was announced, I was intrigued, but skeptical. I had my worries about depth perception and how levels would flow in 3D. Even after I tried the demo I was still on the fence about how I felt. In the end I decided to give it a try and after the first hour or so it all clicked and I'm really enjoying it. Super Meat Boy 3D is quit literally classic Super Meat Boy, but in 3D (duh). But what I mean is all the gameplay and flow of levels feels like the original. You progress through different worlds each with their own sets of hazards, speed run levels to unlock harder dark world versions, collect hidden bandages in each level to unlock new characters that have their own handling and abilities, and it all feels familiar in a good way. They even bring back a lot of the classic Meat Boy hazards like the timed disappearing walls, auto locking rocket launchers, and even those weird portal worms that won't stop following you. To address the main concern: yes, sometimes it is hard to tell the depth of jumps in 3D. There are several settings that can help with this like a circle that's always a bit below Meat Boy, but you will still probably die here and there to a jump you couldn't read properly. While sometimes annoying, I felt it never got to the point where I couldn't play/complete levels. Usually after a few deaths on a new level you'll "get it" and any issues with depth will go away (for the most part). The addition of a "dash" ability also helps a lot for mid-air control and works well in the 3D space. At the time of writing this review I have gotten 100% in the first 3 worlds/dark worlds. I will be going for the full 100% of the game because I am really enjoying it. To me the levels have a nice flow to them and it reminds me of that classic Meat Boy challenge. If you liked the original Meat Boy and wanted more than I definitely recommend trying this one out.

TURN OFF 45 DEGREE SNAPPING! Just turning off that one setting makes the game go from Mario 3d world jank to one of the smoothest 3d platformers I've played in recent memory (auto sprint is also highly recommended). Just A ranked both light and dark world 1 and it’s genuinely such a fun challenge. Camera/perspective is not as big of a problem as people were hyping it up to be (focus on the circle and use the stomp it really helps) and meat boy’s controls feel so natural, responsive, and incredibly precise. Looks great, ran great on deck too. From what i just played it’s totally worth the purchase i was so hooked and i cant wait to play more, it feels so amazing to get a good run

Good but flawed. It's difficult to tell the depth perception of meat boy sometimes. Otherwise the levels are varied and fun and the challenge is usually more rewarding than frustrating on average.
