I have mixed feelings about Species: ALRE. On the hand, I do love this janky little evolution simulator and have put over 200 hours into it. Messing with the landscape, experimenting with parameters such as global and regional temperature, seasons, fertility, gravity and so on, to see the what kind of weird, wonderful and sometimes downright silly creatures would evolve, or what effects a change in environment has on your existing creatures. It can be quite an interesting and relaxing time, when the game works as intended. On the other hand, this game was clearly never finished and it shows. It's a bit fiddly and janky, as worlds become increasingly unstable over longer periods of time, resulting in an increasing amount of fairly regular crashes and unexplainable extinctions, among other things. This can absolutely ruin the fun you were having with your simulations, and I've had to abandon a number of simulations that had been running for several full days because of constant crashes and general instability. Species: ALRE can absolutely be fun if you're into evolution simulators, but I'd recommend only picking this up on sale, because it's frankly abandonware and not worth it all full price.

This game is beautiful. I wish the dev was suddenly overcome by the joy of a thousand supernovas, or whichever celestial object would make the biggest explosion the universe could take. Never to fade away. For this creation is worth that in my eyes.
