Twenty years ago I hit the run-ending locked door bug and vowed never to waste my time with this game again... Now that I've wasted my time with this game again, it's a pretty solid puzzle game (the Mummy sections) grafted onto a lackluster action game. Some parts are inspired, some parts are tedious, and don't expect much from the plot - this was clearly intended to launch a franchise and it ends with a lot of loose ends. It runs fine, but it's one of those games that's really just OK in a lot of aspects. If you've got nostalgia for the era or just want to finally see the ending, hey, go for it - but if there was an "eh, maybe" recommendation I'd be choosing that.

A fantastic, Egyptian mythological experience. The combat is fun and not too challenging. Puzzles are interesting and rewarding. There are several minigames that are a nice change of pace. The typical Heroes Journey is the main theme of the story, similar to many other games yet it works well with this setting. The soundtrack is outstanding, very unique and unlike most other games. I would highly recommend, as I have played this game many times over the past 20 years.

This game is great. During its original release, it boasted a unique setting, excellent character design, generally solid controls, and a refreshing game play loop thanks to it swapping between Sphinx's typical 3D adventure sections and the Mummy's puzzle sections. Decades later it is still a solid entry worth playing for fans of the genre or of Egyptian settings. When playing as a child, I remember the puzzles being challenging and was sometimes frustrated. But I invested several hours in running around the first part of the game and trying to fill the museum. As an adult, I found the puzzles to be mostly easy and intuitive and the combat outside of bosses to be underwhelming. I still enjoyed the Mummy sections a lot, and it was nice to finally beat it. As for negatives, some of the minigames can be frustrating, and if you're a completionist there are several missable items to look out for. Rarely I found the control were not as responsive as I'd wanted. Also, the pacing for the second half of the game is jarringly rushed compared to the first half, but by then I was mostly ready to wrap it up anyway. In conclusion, if it looks interesting to you, give it a try. Here's hoping they revive the IP someday.
