I like this game a lot Very interesting world building The deduction process is satisfying The plot and the twists are great The only thing I don’t really like is the ending Anyways I really enjoyed playing this game 我很喜歡這個遊戲 設定很有趣 推理方面挺好玩（雖然還是有一些推理遊戲的通病啦（有多個線索類似但只有一個正確答案）） 劇情不錯，轉折有驚喜 唯一不太合我口味的是結局，不過不太影響遊戲體驗 整體來說我玩得很開心
I'm giving this game a thumbs up, but not a particularly strong one, as my experience was mostly positive, but man, there's a lot I really didn't gel with all that much. In the same vein as all the other games in the sub genre of detective fiction visual novels, your Danganronpas and Ace Attorneys and similar, this game is all about solving mysterious murders and finding the culprit after unravelling all these schemes. To its credit, it plays fair within these bounds and presents you with what you need to get a pretty clear picture very early, but, well, not fully. Being vague for spoiler reasons, the writers like their dramatic twists that flip everything on its head a little too much, and it feels like cases are working backwards from that point in a way that's significantly less enjoyable to read through than the actual crux of the issue. This is, as you'd imagine, a pain for any writer, and leads to a lot of scenes and investigations that feel quite dull as you're rarely on the same wavelength as the protagonist until near the end, and while that's usually fine, it starts getting annoying when instead of making the deduction, they bring in a witness who you have to use a lie detector superpower on, and then confront them on this lie, ask "why where they lying", present some evidence that goes against them, then finally present another piece of evidence that proves the original deduction you made half an hour ago. Its just slow and uninteresting gameplay in cases that are yet to reveal what actually makes them interesting. This is at its worst in case 3, where you can tell they had the twist planned out and had zero idea how to actually make it interesting, so its just packed with so, so, so much unrelated nonsense to the actual situation they're waiting to reveal on you near the end. Again, not going into details because spoilers, but its rough. So, why am I still recommending this game? Because the writing is good (if suffering a bit from the translation being noticeable), the cases are interesting when they finally get to the crux of the mystery they've been hiding from you and the main cast of characters are all pretty consistent and fun throughout, all of whom get some great moments of development. They're confident in their character writing and save a lot of their best cards for later in the game, with some of my favourite important characters only showing up in case 4 and case 5, yet still being very interesting despite the (relative) lack of time to flesh them out. The main cast mostly carried me through the rough patches of this game, and I'm glad they did, because... ...Case 4 deserves special mention on its own for being one of the most engaging and interesting cases, not just in this game, but a real contender for a top 10 list of cases within the whole detective mystery VN subgenre itself. A lot of the problems I had with the other cases where completely fixed in case 4, and some of the writing habits that irked me beforehand started getting used in really interesting ways or flipped completely into something way more unique. From start to finish, case 4 is amazing and made the experience well worth it. It really does show the rest of the game up, this is the writers on their best day, and its the part of the game I remember most fondly looking back. So yeah, overall, positive but hard to recommend, even though I do. Try out the demo and see if you like it. Again I enjoyed it overall, but if you asked me while I was in the process of reading it, I'm not sure my answer would be the same, so this is a very tentative recommendation.
This might be my favourite deductive reasoning visual novels. I've played Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Somnium Files, Master Detective Archives, Somnium files etc. etc. You get it. I love these games, but one of the worst aspects of them, of nearly all of them, is their bloated writing, poor pacing and inconsistent tone. Staffer Case does not suffer these problem. It is tightly written and focused, with deductions sprinkled throughout the investigations rather than having investigation and deduction separated into two different blocks of gameplay. The result is that you're never left waiting for the fun parts, where you're actually part of the process of the story, for very long. Cases don't drag out for several hours of frustrating red herrings, and the writing is smart enough that you're unlikely (I think) to immediately solve everything way before the game is ready to give you credit for that. It's not a very visually striking experience. There's basically no animation, and the character portraits only has 3 or so poses to cycle through for most of the game. If you're not in the mood to read and solve mysteries, the game isn't going to provide much else as a distraction. But what is here is genuinely compelling, and worth experiencing if any of the games I listed above are your cup of tea. And maybe, even if it isn't. The first two cases are available for free as a demo, and I could not recommend it highly enough for anyone on the fence.
Overall, I love the worldbuilding so so much, it has so much potential to be opened further into a long-term series. The characters are so lively and enjoyable, they aren't some mindless power-wielders but real creatures in the world of this game, really makes me thought what would I do if I was one of them. The crime execution around the power is creative, it's really mind-blowing to me especially Case 4, despite I still can guess the culprit even before the game progressed, it's still nice knowing my deduction still working after watching Detective Conan's movies. I still really recommend this game for who likes detective visual novel. ///warning: spoiler However, I have to drop the game after Case 4 because I'm baffled for the amount of sudden romance between Case and Redfins. Honestly, I didn't even realize these two supposed to have attraction to each other until a lot of characters mention it in Case 4. Does this make the story worse overall? I supposed not, I just don't like the way it happens so to me, yes. I know Case is special from the start: he's brave; he's smart; his moral is good, not black but not completely white; an orphan boy working from the rural to big city with a dream and imagination about making a better world. Love me a typical shounen boy protagonist, I won't complain. But in romance I don't like it, I would love for Case to express more about himself and having their personal moment in the rooftop more about romance interaction before Case 4 instead of talking around the crime. I can't see the directions so I can't reach the goal. Even right before Redfins start the line about Case's "special", they still stand with distance like in the banner of the game. It will take a long time for me to pick up the game again and finish it. Btw, Thena and Bryan are cute, if I was Case, I will force them to get back together/j
I was a little hesitant on getting this game, since I am not a fan of detective stories with supernatural elements. I thought it might make the mystery too easy. I was dead wrong, and I am really glad I gave this game a chance. The story is excellent and very well written. It kept me engaged from start to finish, and the characters are easily one of the strongest parts of the game. They gradually grew on me, and I became very invested in them as the story progressed. Case 4 in particular was an absolute blast to play through. It was insane. There are some flaws, but they do not take away much from the overall experience. The English translation can occasionally feel a bit off, which sometimes makes it harder to understand what the game is asking for. However, this only happens rarely, and most of the time the text is clear and easy to follow. The clue combination system can also be a bit frustrating at times. Some questions feel vague, and it is not always obvious which evidence you are expected to present. There are moments where multiple conclusions seem correct and logical, but the game only accepts one specific answer. Even with these issues, the story and characters made them super easy to look past. The writing carries the experience. The ending left a lasting emotional impact on me. It was something that I wasn't able to let go, and I genuinely want a sequel to continue the story. Overall, this is a great game that I would recommend.
