An elegant game, from a more civilized time! A game I played in my childhood, and one of the few pure shooters that has won my liking (they usually aren't my cup of tea), althrough it should also be said that among the Dark Forces games, this is probably my least favorite one, but that's because you get to be a Jedi and play around with not just a variety of weapons but also force powers in the other ones - and precisely because of that I can't count those as pure 'shooters' either... Anyway, for the game: it's a Doom/Wolfstein-esque (but without the treasure looting of Wolfstein) game set in the Star Wars universe. The main character infiltrates imperial bases, ships and suchlike while stealing plans, objects or getting ahold of someone, all to put an end to the Empire's latest secret weapon meant to be used to bring down the Rebellion. On the way, you get to pick up a variety of weapons, many of these familiar to those familiar with Star Wars, that gives you a broad enough range of choice of how to deal with your enemies. Wanna take down your enemies while shooting as inaccurately as any Stormtrooper? Use a Blaster Rifle! Wanna blow up your enemies the good, old-fashioned Star Wars way? Use Thermal Detonators (and no, you can't simply get your enemies to back off by threatening to use one)! And so on... The game offers 14 levels of varying environments - factories, military bases, ships, sewers, etc... As well as the option to make the levels more or less difficult as you like (easy, medium and hard). On the average, a level doesn't take THAT much time to play through, but it'll depend on the level, the difficulty and how much time you use (or waste) trying to find secrets (yeah, the game has those and there's plenty enough of those to find) or make mistakes like mistiming a jump or so. A player who tries hard enough or is already familiar with the game can probably finish it within a day or two, though I personally spread out my playthrough of the game on Steam over a few days, doing only 1-3 levels each day. How the remaster truly differs from the original, I can't quite say that much about, because it has been a LONG time since I played the original. It LOOKS much better, of course, both the game in general and in the cutscenes but other than that, I cannot say if there's that much difference... Save for one thing: I did notice certain enemies seems to have gotten updated behaviours, so there's that. And the levels seem to have been faithfully recreated as well, so if that was a worry about the game you had, there's nothing to worry about. There are, however, a few negatives about the game that I'd like to mention: - Some levels test my patience or really aren't all that fun, for one reason or another. Being a little too labyrinthine, featuring some sheningans (some such being hard to notice/find out) and the like... Such as jumps you MUST make to make it to the end of the mission, which I can't say I enjoy that much - I don't mind dying to enemies or my own stupid mistakes, but dying from gravity; from just not timing my jumps right, is just about the worst... - The 'running' option is neat, but the way it works can be maddening; like the PC is sliding across slippery ice... I wish it wasn't so; it makes it all too easy to 'slip' over a ledge or edge at times... - I can't help but feel that it's kind of ridiculous that I can't push a button or the like that is on 'crouch-level' unless the PC is also crouching and vice-versa... Other than that, no complaints. Dark Forces Remastered is a fun game to play that I recommend first and foremost to those who like shooters and/or Star Wars, as well as those that do not mind trying their hand at one of the classics, even one that doesn't have the same reputation or lustre as that of Doom or Wolfstein... But regardless of whether you get & play the game or not... May the Force be with you!

It runs well and plays well, the only complaint I have is that one of the last levels in the game has a known bug that prevents you from activating the switches needed to continue, forcing you to restart. With how short the game is and how much more they're charging for the remaster I would've hoped stuff like that would be fixed.

May the fourth be with you! I chose to spend my 4th playing this remastered classic Doom era shooter with the movies running in the background. It's a fun game with a fairly long campaign mode. Some of the more maze like levels get confusing and a bit frustrating, but otherwise it's a good time blasting the crap out of every Storm Trooper you see. It looks better than it ever has before and this version is definitely worth checking out!

This fantastic remaster of a fantastic game is proof that the job of porting/remastering Star Wars games should be given to Nightdive and not Aspyr.
