March 2025
I've accumulated over 469+ hours in the 4 years i've had this game (as of writing this), going from one of the original starter stations and trading ship, to the current 0.4.0 build on the earlier_access branch, and Starmancer has become one of my comfort games to play. Do updates take a while? Yes, but keep in mind that it *is* just a 2-man dev team, and though they don't always post every update and thing they're working on, they *are* still working on it even with all the stuff going on in their own lives. Seeing how far it came, from the original, janky, maniac-induced m*rder-spirals that could happen because of a broken machine (I see you, billboards, you can't hide from me!) and the old tutorial with a final quest you can't actually complete, to the current gameplay with systems inhabited by bots, slimes, and straggler spacefarers, containing all sorts of items and relics and gear in the various themed 'dungeons', fearing a zombie or pirate incursing and hoping i find a pod of space whales or a trader... it's great, and I cant wait to see the final product when it comes out. I know a lot of people are upset because the last update had been in July 2024, and we didnt see the 0.4.0 update until March 2025, but all I ask is that people please be kind, and just be glad that this isn't like another game I have thats taken 10 years to get out of Alpha with all sorts of redacts to the game content(cough7DTDcough). Also, there's alot of us on the discord server as well, and I (and a bunch of others) are happy to help anyone out if they need or have questions

Quite a nice little colony builder game with a bit of a twist to it. Feels good to set up little production chains and explore the weird flora and fauna that's currently in the game. Has a great crunchy pixel look that you can't really find elsewhere. Future updates seem promising too, and I boot it up for a few hours every time there is one -- definitely more hours than what steam shows. Would recommend if you are fine with it not being finished yet, and it isn't particularly expensive.

I have over 300 hours in this little abandoned game called Starship Theory. This could be a sequel, honestly. Starmancer seriously scratches my itch for more of this kind of base building sim. It's quite good but has a steep learning curve. Expect to die a few times or more until you learn the mechanics. There are still lots of bugs and crashes, but it is early access.

Ok hear me out, let the dev cook. Would have been all too easy to abandon the game after the majority of the player base left, but the dev seems to be carrying on with releasing new mechanics and stuff. The base game is really solid and the late game becomes meta with unlocking more cosmetics and new ways to optimise the game flow like building the perfect house in craft of mine. The only thing it needs is more sauce and ways in how you construct the house, plus how the world interacts with it.

Review written in haste because I feel this game has been boned in Steam somehow and it deserves help. Good writing, cute, funny good graphics Excellent tutorial clear, non pixelated ui qol, can pick up colonists (like Dungeon Keeper), tell them what to do (unlike every other one of these damn games), helpful tooltips Something seems fishy about the Steam "Mixed" review score. Look for yourself. Cheats, in-depth challenge customization, newbie hints, it's almost like they WANT you to enjoy playing this. IMO: ignore the top 2 negative reviews.
