It was good up to certain point, the more you advance the messier it gets and it's more stressful with ugly train lines than cozy. In the puzzle way of thinking is just good. I would still recommend it because sometimes is satisfying to make some crazy connections that reward you a lot. Buy on sale.

I seldom write Steam reviews, but I thought I would make an exception for Station to Station. Station to Station is not meant to be facile and simplistic, nor is it meant to be a complicated tycoon simulation or strategy game -- it captures the enchantment of dioramas, the nostalgia of toy trains, the thrill of card stacking, and the satisfaction of strategic connectivity. While the gameplay is relatively straightforward, Station to Station understands the fundamental principles of clean and structured game design -- things that impatient and self-entitled players often fail to appreciate in games today, complaining about anything that requires thought or causes the smallest degree of frustration. There is a kind of touching 'purity' and 'elegance' in Station to Station's design that you rarely find in games anymore, and having nearly completed all the levels and optional challenges, I think it is now one of my all-time favourites.

Warning: THIS IS NOT A TRAIN GAME. Okay, so - it's a puzzle game first and foremost, that happens to have a train theme. But I felt compelled to warn that upfront because trains are my father's brand of autism and I know how particular y'all train people can be. This kind of caught me off-guard, since I had seen a teaser for the game in some Not-E3-Anymore showcase in recent years and just thought it looked like a cozy train game with a nice voxel artstyle. What I didn't expect was how addicting the relatively simple mechanic of hooking up stations in a particular order to maximize bonuses would be. The game never exactly feels hard unless you're trying to go for 100% completion, and the main puzzle mechanic doesn't change much throughout the game's duration. What keeps it fresh is the steady introduction of new biomes, each with their own little quirks and special ability cards to play to make you think even more about where to place your stations and railways. Props to the composers for using a progressive soundtrack arrangement that becomes more complex as you progress through a level - gotta be one of my favorite genres. Cute, relaxing, quality. I definitely recommend to puzzle game fans, and tentatively recommend to train fans if they happen to like puzzle games.

This is more in the vein of "Islanders" or perhaps "Dorfromantik", than any kind of model railway building simulator, and that's perfectly fine. Mechanics are very simple but the optional challenges (present in every stage) become more and more difficult to complete. That, coupled with the fact that there is no single way of solving (by connecting all possible profitable routes) any of the levels, makes the game fun to return to time and time again, in short bursts. Visuals make the game look like some kind of coffee table model train diorama, though they are surprisingly heavy on the GPU.

Train-themed games in any form are probably one of my favorites, but after trying, let's call it, "unofficial demo" for a little bit, I wasn't so sure about this one. The gameplay seemed extremely simple: you just put stations and connect them without much thought, that's it. Eventually I did purchase the game anyway and now, after completing the 100% achievements, I'd say that my first impression didn't change much: you actually do need a little thought, but only to understand how the stacking works. Then you just create two big chains of buildings; one chain gives resources, another chain needs resources. When done with the chains or are close to going bankrupt, connect those chains and boom, the stack is so ridiculously big, that it overlaps the stack interface, gets you a couple of thousand bucks and opens all buildings and cards. This method can be applied for every single map in the game. Therefore, in a nutshell, this is a very low challenge puzzle game that can warm you during cold days. And I mean that literally - for some reason the "state of art" voxel technology used to create this game is melting a 4070Ti, if played on higher than Medium graphic settings. Did I enjoy it? I think yes, to a certain degree. In a way like starting the game every now and then, and completing a level or two. Can I recommend it? If you are looking for a very minimalistic and simple train-themed puzzle game - yes, you'll most likely enjoy this one. If you are looking for some management, there is not much here in this regard.
