April 2025
Stormworks is genuinely one of my favorite games ever. Playing Stormworks never gets boring. Why? You never run out of things to do. What other game can you spend weeks building a helicopter, and then fly it straight into a warzone? What other game can you drive a minivan and then launch in a rocket to space in 15 minutes? The game takes the concept of sandbox to the next level. Boats, helicopters, planes, trains, subs, cars, rockets, you can literally build and operate any type of machine you want. If your considering getting stormworks, there are some things new users should know. 1. DLCs: The DLCs in stormworks get a lot of hate, but they are nice to have if your serious about the game. (the search and destroy DLC is a must, the industrial DLC is cool because it adds an extra third of map, and the space DLC is ok, cool if you like space but you don't need it). 2. Community: the community in stormworks is amazing, the discord is active, members are usually nice, (although a bit unfriendly to new players sometimes), the workshop community is unreal, (literally you don't have to build a single vehicle if you don't want to), the game itself is very open to mods/ add ons, and there is a large amount of additions out there, the meme community is also great. 3. Devs: this wouldn't be a good review if I didn't mention the developers. They are very nice/reasonable, however they tend to like to do there own thing and not listen to the community, however most times they do eventually add the things we ask for. They also update the game very often and fix as many bugs as they can find. 4. Playability: you can run single player pretty well on low end pcs, so I wouldn't worry about that as long as you meet the requirements, however if your planning on playing multiplayer do expect a decent amount of lag unless you have a supercomputer. Do keep in mind that using smaller creations/less AI will reduce lag in multiplayer and single player if your having trouble so its not completely unplayable. As far as bugs go, there are minimal glitches although with more complicated/janky creations the physics engine sometimes behaves oddly. New updates oftentimes bring bugs but the devs always take care of them eventually. 5. Features: like I have mentioned, stormworks is full of things to do. The main career mode is what the game has built off of. The original point of the game was to complete rescue missions by building your own rescue vehicles. Obviously, it has blossomed and become much more than this. Still, the main career is fun because your limited by money and it's an entertaining challenge. With more updates, you can now complete transport missions, repair missions, put out forest fires, clean up oil, and other various tasks. There is also specific natural disasters that will provoke rescue missions such as tornadoes, tsunamis, meteors, volcanos, and other natural occurrences. Secondly, is the obvious custom (sandbox) mode. Here you have unlimited money, can teleport wherever you want, etc. It's important to note you can still complete missions in sandbox mode, it just means you have all the money you want to complete them. Additionally, with the search and destroy DLC, you can fight to capture bases against AI combatants. The game includes so much to do, and it's very customizable meaning you can play with any variation of these settings, (Ex. you can do missions while fighting AI or surviving a volcanic eruption). Overall, if you decide to get the game, I think you will certainly find something to do. Everyone has their thing in this game, and when your bored of one aspect, you can usually find something else to do with ease. For a new user, I recommend just purchasing the base game and maybe the search and destroy DLC, because you can always just buy the others if you get into it more. This game has created many core memories for me, brought me closer to my friends, and I still have fun playing to this day. I hope my review was useful to you, and I would like to extend a warm welcome to any new players of this great game.

They should elaborate more on "build and rescue" subtitle. Because this game is... 80% : Building your vehicle 5% : Rescuing, using said vehicle 15% : Going back and fine tuning said vehicle. remember : Aesthetic is inversely proportional to Functionality

For what looks like a simple game, its all but... I have learnt so much about engineering, programming, coding, logic and I would be a lot smarter at problem solving had I had this 20 years ago. I am an old model maker from way back you, the fun part is making it work, so many eureka moment and it teaches you to succeed. If you also have kids that are to addicted to screen time , this is the game for them, as educates them in so many ways from beginner math to advanced Pythagorean theorem and Lua coding, not to mention advanced robotics and thermal and fluid dynamics. it can be simple... or extreme. NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED 5 STARS!
