Sunday Gold is a interesting experiment, a mix i haven't seen before but i left the experience feeling very positive about! though i do feel that with the risks it took, it also left things to be desired. The Story while not the most groundbreaking, i find does a decent enough job, it follows a criminal trio trying to reveal the conspiracies behind the biggest sport of the 2070s : Kings league, where reanimated cyborg dogs race to the death now normally i dislike writing about story element in games because most of the time i think its best if you give it a try and figure how you feel about it, but i do want to say that the main cast is amazing!, easily the best part about the game is how the VA really elevates the experience, i find the dynamics they develop very fun, the game is at its strongest when it focuses on the main cast and when in between chapters there's a lot of dialogue i will get a bit into spoilers ahead though the main cast are by far the best part of the narrative, towards the end of the game and by the actual ending we don't really get much from them?, i found the actual way the game ends very rushed and not having the characters on an epilogue was a MASSIVE missed opportunity, especially with how the plot moves forward because our cast wanted different things out of this, frank needed the money as he owes the mafia money (this is never really brought up again), i do kinda wish we got a bit more out of frank and sally too because they have a long history together, but besides their banter we don't really get anything like gavin's backstory being relevant by the first two chapters, it doesn't necessarily take away from the experience but i do wish we got more of these characters nonetheless The gameplay centers around playing around the turn based element, both combat and exploration work around your characters action points, theyre used for picking up items, solving puzzles, and using combat skills, usually in most point and click games im trying to just interact with everything, but you'll want to be careful how you spend them, as ending the turn can raise the alertness of the area which makes exploration harder, and if it gets high enough youll be fighting almost every end of the turn which will also wear on your points, its a push and pull from both sides of the game that creates a sense of urgency that i enjoyed throughly Expanding on puzzles and exploration, each character has a speciality minigame that only they can do, Frank picks locks, Sally can move heavy objects and Gavin can Hack computers. these are largely very simple... except for Gavin's, see its a guessing the password game with correct numbers, wrong position and incorrect, but you dont really know which ones are right or wrong, you just have to guess it which ive noticed from other reviews its disproportionately complex to the majority of puzzles and well, yeah i can also tell you its quite annoying to do, so much so that gavin has an ability to completely skip them for a higher action point cost (which is hilariously telling to me honeslty) i dont think its a total dealbreaker in terms of getting stuck doing this over and over, but i found it important to point out as if youre expecting a simplistic experience you'll get this curveball at some point There's a mechanic that also ties to both combat and exploration, composure makes your character behavior more erratic, if your composure is low enough different things happen, on exploration the text might get harder to read, sometimes you hear voices, puzzles can get a bit harder (namely, gavin's hacking minigame will have the colored symbols all be a single color) and characters might lash out at each other, while on combat stats go down, maybe the characters different phobias show, and most importantly they enter into panic, giving you a few seconds to choose an action or they'll do a move of their own, it's a fun mechanic that punishes you for being reckless and i think it really adds to what the game is going for though i do want to talk about the combat, while i do appreciate the game's minimalistic animations and stylistic choices the combat can be a bit jarring at times, its nothing game breaking but animations sometimes just kinda don't really match what they are meant to be, like how a skill to fire into a crowd has the character fire once, maybe an enemy uses a grenade and the animation is just shooting (which now that i remember the player characters don't really throw them either..), on long boss fights you'll be seeing the same couple animations play a lot and while its not as clean as i would like, i still enjoyed the combat. Honestly, even in spite of its flaws this games tries enough for me to recommend to play it through at least once for anyone who enjoys point and click narrative adventures

Sunday Gold feels like Disco Elysium after a strong edit and a cup of coffee. Same anti-capitalist brain, less philosophical meandering. The hook lands immediately: a busted system, a small crew of desperate people, and a rich guy who absolutely deserves it. I cared fast and stayed locked in. The writing is sharp, pissed-off, and genuinely funny, with dialogue battles that feel like psychological union organizing. It’s stylish without being precious, political without the seminar vibes. No lore haze, no patience tax—just a smart, mean little game that respects your time and your intelligence.

Wonderful game! The story is super fun and engaging. I love the turn based fight mechanics and the action point system. The skills for each of the characters is distinct and allows for a good amount of flexibilty to prioritize the skills that you want for that character. The art is stunning and the voice acting is good! Highly recommend this game for people whole enjoy mysteries, ttrpg-esque games, and just generally if you were curious about this game, try it out!

loved the style in this game. found the gameplay fun, the music & voice acting created a great atmosphere. puzzles were mostly fun, i only had to turn to a walkthrough a couple times but that ended up being due to me not realizing something was interactable - not sure if that's a me problem or due to playing the game on the deck which the game is not 100% compatible with (switching control layouts to get a keyboard was tedious but doable, luckily not needed too much). frank's observe skill seemed like it could have helped but i never got it to do anything on the deck, unfortunately. really liked the game let me make choices on how to complete objectives in some key moments, i'm looking forward to playing it again in a bit to do things differently.
