As of the episode 3 release, I'm really impressed with Supplice so far. It has definitely managed to elevate itself from being a "Doom clone" since the demo. Gameplay is very well designed, every weapon feels like it has a purpose, and a best use-case against specific enemies, and I frequently switch between them to mix things up -- none of them feel underutilized. The enemy design is varied, and all of them are instantly recognizable, very good work in this regard as well. The levels are usually large and sprawling, containing hundreds of enemies -- so despite each episode "only" having 5 maps and 1 secret level, each one is about as long as an episode you'd find in other retro FPS. The music is great too, my favorite tunes have to be E1M2 and E1M5, I could listen to these for hours. You have a range of more melodic tracks, but also some atmospheric ones that make certain levels feel more suspenseful. The texture and sprite artist is the same as for Ion Fury, and his work is superb as always. I also love the way the story is told through the terminals. It meshes perfectly with the fast-paced gameplay and it actually has me very invested in the characters, the setting and what will happen next -- something I can't say about similar lore documents in other recent games in the "boomer shooter" category. Really looking forward to the next 3 episodes!

What a great doom like game. And when i say doom like i mean it has its fundamentals the rest is +++ to the game. Let me just say Ep 3 left me want to know more about the story than ever, i have to many questions. Yes it has story and at first its nothing special and its like reading a chatter on Aol for quiet some time than things start to make sense. The combat is very good i recommend hard or higher, because the weapons are well balanced and are AWESOME like Slugger xD Double barrel redefined. Level design is an art well though out.. Episodes are still coming + more content so i recommend to anyone who wants doom but on steroids. I just wish we could get more power ups AND MORE WACKY WEAPONS! Plz Defs plz more weapons.

At time of writing, three episodes were released. In general, the gameplay is pretty nice, but there is no jumping and no crouching. I personally prefer boomer-shooter Doom-clones to have these improvements and not limit themselves so vulgarly in level design. I want *more* freedom, not less! The weapons are okay, but not very special. I played pretty much the entire game with the double-barreled shotgun and only swapped to other guns when I had to face bosses or congregations of a lot of strong opponents. The sentries that you can place are awesome! They are super powerful, but also run out of ammo quickly.I I wish there was a way to deploy more of them with less ammo, rather than being able to carry 3 and only deploy 1 or 2 because they want to grab the max ammo they can have and leave you with empty sentries. The level design is rather good! With the hard exception that it does not take crouching and jumping in to account, which I find a sad disappointment. :( Secrets are sometimes in ridiculous smash-any-wall places, some secrets are in proper placement and reward you with exploration. You can freely use the 'secret' command in the console without cheating, to give you some hints to where the secrets are. I find these to be a bit too spoilery at times, and a few are just downright useless hints. Some are at a nice level of not being too spoilery, but also not too vague or downright impossible to follow. Most levels are not super linear, but there's also not a ton of backtracking, so I think that's at a good sweetspot. The levels look great and immersive, it doesn't look like there's just corridors, rooms and arenas for gameplay sake - everything looks like it is legit the facility that you are visiting. The soundtrack is superb! I really like it! I know this is a hot/sensitive topic for a lot of people but I want to voice my opinion on this part despite how some people might receive it. (Hence I disabled comments, though.) There's some annoying agenda-pushing in the story, but the story is only optional to follow. You have some mandatory terminals that have you read through some pages of text, and there are optional terminals. But you can skip through all of it, and none of it gives you any 'mission critical' information. At about halfway through Episode 2, I lost interest in the story. I don't think it was written particularly well. It didn't manage to grab me and it seemed quite disconnected from the gameplay. You can freely explore the game and figure out what to do without the terminals, though! Though the incidental agenda-fueled lines take even more away from the story being immersive and qualitative, it is not overbearing and you can still read through it to enjoy the story if you would like to. As usual, there is absolutely no problem with characters being non-standard, we've had that for ages. But if you feel you need to explicitly point it out in in-game dialogue with very obvious meta-writing, it always comes out so forced and immersion breaking. I would have preferred the bad-assedry to be evident through gameplay, not by writing trying to enforce it. The game doesn't need it. You don't even notice anything about the character outside of the terminals, so what is the point, anyway? Don't take the amount of words for it being such a big problem - it's only a minor gripe I think could have been handled better and I don't think that even when you're strongly opposed or sensitive to these topics/things, it will ruin your game experience. All in all I think it is worth its €15,- pricetag. I got 22 hours out of it in the current state. At least one more episode is planned, going by the endscreen in episode 3. I am looking forward to it!

I recommend this to anyone that enjoys the retro shooters. The shooting feels good with all the weapons and the impact feels satisfying. The soundtrack was a surprise hit too. A lot of good beats to go along with the running and gunning. Looking forward to Episode 4. My only gripes are, lacking of jumping. It feels like there are moments you wish you could jump. This is like Doom 2.0. No jumping in Doom either, but at least get the full mouse look, so you don't feel like you're wearing a helmet that prevents you from turning your head at all, lol. The often times I found myself lost. All enemies appeared wiped out and I'm just running around looking for that next way to go to advance. I have the mini map pulled up, but it's not always useful. Granted, this could be a me problem, so I wouldn't take away points personally if you're looking at this. Lastly, no achievements! I'm not sure if they plan to incorporate them at launch, but the lack of achievements surely felt old school as well, lol. Don't get me wrong, a solid game is a solid game, with or without achievements, but it feels like the kind of game that could enjoy some added. Overall, a recommend. Plays fast, smooth and again, the combat is quite satisfying.

After having spent a lot of time lately playing Selaco, it feels good to jump back into a real Boomer Shooter (which Selaco is not, nor is it trying to be). Supplice is though, and it’s a lot of fun. The one big compliment I will give to this game is that it truly looks, feels, sounds, and plays like a game a from the early/mid nineties. It honestly has nailed it better than anything else I’ve played in modern times, as good if not better than Ion Fury’s vibe. I think it’s the music that really pushes it over the line and makes it genuinely feel retro, not just trying to emulate it. And that’s saying a lot, feel free to check out my game inventory, I basically own 95% of the retro FPS games on Steam.
