I sat down to play a few minutes, and it turned into a few hours. Initially, the AI look was a bit distracting. The opening scene has that tell-tale plastic look to characters. But, I quickly stopped caring once the action started. The story length and branching was deeper than I expected. Some paths can't be followed unless you've unlocked prerequisite paths, but, thankfully, the game tells you exactly what you need to unlock to get access to those paths. For the sale price, this is 100% worth the experience if you like visual novels or interactive films. It's a mashup of zombie, sci-fi, and fantasy - with a little bit of quirky Asian cinema stuff. The story and different paths will keep you busy for a while.
Survivor's Notes completely reshapes what an FMV game can be by fixing the single biggest flaw in the genre: pacing. Most FMV titles drag players down with endless exposition, flat dialogue, and tedious downtime, but this one cuts the fluff entirely. From start to finish, the action is non-stop, intense, and insanely engaging, keeping you hooked without a single dull moment. It is also a clear statement on where interactive media is heading. While traditional FMVs are limited by massive budgets, physical sets, and rigid filming schedules, leveraging modern AI pipelines allows for dynamic narrative branching, relentless high-octane sequences, and sheer visual scale that would otherwise be impossible for a leaner studio. When tech is used to eliminate filler rather than pad out time, the end result is pure, adrenaline-fueled gameplay. If this is the direction FMV and AI-assisted game design are taking, the future of the medium looks fast, intense, and deeply entertaining.
If You turn off Your skepticism about AI and just try to have fun with this FMV, then it is really an enjoyable experience. Yes there are bugs and You don't need to look hard for inconsistencies (especially for character positioning and damage during action scenes) but considering where AI is and what future holds, then I can only look forward to more stuff like this. Whether we like it or not AI is here to stay one way or another and if it can bring products like that at lower budget and realise visions of people that couldn't otherwise make them, then I'm all for it, especially for current price. I've seen lots of movies, anime and shorts for ex. trimz and this one for it's price is really good quality, manga parts are nice addition. The good: - character consistency - fun characters especially Peacock Squad ;P - female characters (eye candy) - enjoyable story unless You start to analyse it too much (basically sci-fi action hack and slash zombie movie) - overall quality is really good - AI consistency (except for action scenes) makes it an enoyable experience watching/playing this FMV - variety of branching paths that have a lot of movie content that can lead to dead end - good voice acting (at least I can't really find any fault with it) - good music and some fun memes - manga parts are nice addition. The bad: - english translation could be better and sometimes it's missing subtitles - not many but sometimes You can see the AI plastic* skin that is common in AI in few scenes that have dropped in quality - position of cuts/shots and overall damage from weapons (depends on You personally how much You tolerate it) but that's still really hard to get everytime with AI atm. - manga parts could be higher resolution and have english translation - noticable character sizes(small differences sometimes, especially black panther) or positioning in scenes that is hard to get with AI In current state at least for me it's 7/10, but I like these types of settings and watch a lot of korean and chinese dramas or animations, so I'm used to this style. Edit: I've liked the twist and the story after finishing the FMV, so my final score is 8/10, can only look forward to more stuff like that, especially when AI consistiency will only get better and hopefully english translations too ;).
Its a great game for honestly a steal of a price, I agree this game needs to be further polished, But even without it, I'd sell this game for $15-20, Because its really good, Lots of convenience and replay-ability, 7/10 for sure, If it gets properly polished, subtitles, audio and scenes, It's easily a 8 out of 10 game. Also to the developer, or developers, I hope you doing everything you can to advertise and sell this game, Its really good, Keep these games coming.
