This is a well-crafted game and it is obvoius that a lot of love went into it. Consider this game if you like traditional isometric RPG's with turn-based combat, deepish character development and lots of quests. Works great on Linux with CPU use running around 3-5% and video utilization around 30-40%. Takes about 1.7 GB of RAM on Linux. Should work well on potato systems. I had a hard time getting into it due to personal tastes. First, I found the story very slow to develop, starting in an utterly generic medieval farm setting. There were too many bland medieval quests in the beginning: "clear my field of rats", "kill the wolves", etc. I started the game 3 times, got about 15 hours in then quit. The quests became much more interesting as it approached mid-game and once I pushed past the first 15 to 20 hours I managed to see the game through to the end. The turnbased combat is pretty good. It's got some depth but nowhere near the level of something like Jagged Aliiance 3, Colony Ship or BG3. I probably need to play it on hard to really see if there is any tactical depth but really didn't see it on normal mode. And part of that is personal. I prefer ranged combat to melee. The combat system focuses heavily on melee and there are not many interesting weapons. You get up close and bash/slash people whether it's a sword or a mace or a dagger. I prefer the focus on guns in ATOM RPG. Finally, you have to play it like a party based RPG. Character levels are low and there are few skill points. This is a game that rewards specialization on the main character with skills being off-loaded to the party members. I think that limits unique builds. And there are definitely no viable Jack-of-all-trades builds IMHO. The main character can realistically have one weapon skill and one persuasion skill. So, all in all, I think this a well crafted game that is worth a playthrough. I don't see myself rushing out to replay it, however, since there are only so many ways you can bash enemies over the head and there is a very limited selection of party members. I guess maybe for a solo run. 8/10

This is a nicely made (mostly!) fantasy RPG from the devs who brought us the excellent ATOM game. Graphics are done well and the whole experience reminded me of Baldur’s Gate with more modern graphics. The atmosphere is great, you play a low-level party RPG, low magic, heroes are trying to find their way in the world. There are lots of nice side-quests and a good main story. I enjoyed my experience, finished the game after 43 hours, having done most content. I would recommend buying, but here are negatives you need to be aware of since they might decrease your enjoyment of the game. • The game has a big story twist regarding its fantasy setting you might not like, which completely turns around atmosphere in the last 15h. • The game is rushed/unfinished after the quests in Swordhaven (which for me were roughly the last 20h of the experience; about from where you get a boat) • Economy feels broken, you mostly find junk stuff which sells for low prices, you are constantly overloaded by it and if you want to buy high quality stuff it is extremely expensive (to progress the story, at one point you need 3000 gold pieces, which was half of what I had that time, without buying much, so be aware, this could really stall your progress). Once you reach the post-boat content (endgame), you find stuff so massively different that in effect, buying anything before had nearly no impact and felt unnecessary. Nothing before compares to what you then have for the rest of the game. • The whole skill and leveling system is a mess and badly explained on top of it. For one thing, on normal difficulty, you get roughly 15 skill points per level, ending the game maybe on level 10-12 = 150-180 skill points. Max for a skill (which comes with a special ability) is 199, grand master level starts at 150 skill points. You cannot even max one skill, let alone grandmaster a skill. At best, realistically, each character has 2 skills at 100+ (master level), one of which needs to be combat (main char will be a bit better). Don’t make the mistake of spreading your points around, you will suck at everything (locks for instance can be picked based on skill thresholds 50, 75, 100, 150, so points in between are wasted. None of this is explained to you. • You cannot respect; well, 2/3 into the game, I found 2 potions of respec, but mind you, that’s about 25h in, and you may have 5 characters that you leveled up weirdly. • What also sucks about the skill system is there are four or five “social” skills (persuasion, bluff, haggling, intimidation, outdoorsmanship), all of which only work for the main char. See above, focus on one, max it or it will be largely useless. Lots of skill checks (and xp) depend on these, but you may only use one (or two if your main is social and combat-useless). This, again, is not explained in the game. Mostly, skill checks are very difficult, so you fail often if you do not commit to maxing one skill or two. • While you can talk your way around a lot of things, there is a large endgame level with mandatory fights. Don’t try the pacifist route. • The broken skill system makes crafting broken, as one of your NPCs should master crafting and another one brewing potions (which is a different skill: medicine). Due to high skill ceilings, most of the crafting outside of simple healing potions and crafting arrows and bolts is useless as it comes extremely late-game and most stuff you find then is simply better or equally good. None of what I could craft till late-game was better or more useful than what I found otherwise. Huge missed potential here. Also most of the required ore to craft good stuff was basically moved to endgame where you find stuff vastly outclassing what you then would be able (skill level and required resources) to craft. Just lowering skill thresholds by 25 or more or giving more skill points and making core crafting resources cheaper and easier available would massively increase the usefulness of the experience. Finally note, as of this writing, aside from a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ steam guide in video form (oh how it sucks finding information there), there is next to no guide help online, so you gotta figure out most stuff yourself. (not the devs’ fault, but since the game is rather forbidding, this might mean lots of people not finishing due to not knowing where to go and what to do) I realize that the above negatives concern central gameplay features for an RPG. While combat (even if not very strategic), questing, atmosphere and world building are satisfying, the mentioned core RPG features of this game are bad. I still had fun, but you should know before buying. Bonus tip: in the final level you are given some code to open a door, which does appear nowhere. Write it down.

Recommended with caveats: This is one of those top-down party-based tactical rpgs, which is something I like. First caveat: the game world isn't all that big, and there isn't a huge amount of replayability. This is fine in and of itself, but for me playing a game of this type that is a little unusual. I expected this to have magic in it and maybe learn some at some point, and we didn't. This made sense with the plot, but it does mean you have a team of five people and ultimately the only distinction is what special abilities are available on the weapons they use. Technically there are nine companions available, but two of them are set by the game, one is set by your choice of background, and only one is a choice, so a second run will only change two of them and a third run would only change at most one. Second caveat: your primary character is more or less obliged to be good at social skill. I say skill singular because persuasion will sort you for pretty much everything, but don't make the mistake of thinking you can play a character who is socially inept, or a solo thief, or something like that. Third caveat: this is very much a quicksave game, and also to some extent a "read some spoilers before playing" game. There's bits of the game locked behind speech checks, which you only get one chance at, so quicksave. There are traps which you can disarm perfectly when not stealthing, but when you're in stealth mode the distance reckoning is sloppy and you will trigger them sometimes while moving up to disarm, so quicksave. The stealth has good ideas but is janky, so quicksave. There are shrines which will bless you a bit for praying, and a lot more for praying properly, which is cool. But if you click on the shrine and pray and think you'll come back later with the proper dedication, then you can't. I have spent 86 hours, and that might be it for me. This is okay in term of hours of entertainment for money spent, but it's not as good as this type of game usually is for me. If you liked this one, try anything by spiderweb software as well.

So there's an NPC in an inn, whose dialogue I (thought have) exhausted. Just randomly talking again with him while he's doing one of his random idle animated activities: reading a book. The game offers me to ask him about the book he's reading. That's when I decided to give this game a positive review.

Starts slow. Gets better and better. The fact that your stash's content is shared between several hubs is just ingenious. No need to carry around valuables. Also a huge plus is the fact that the Devs are very very active here on Steam and listen to the Community! If you like oldschool CRPGs like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity etc. this is a must-buy-must-play. Enjoy!
