It is very incomplete and the content is bare-bones, but I love it anyway. The bones of this game are excellent and I hope the developers follow through with all the rest of the content as well as adding some sort of campaign. If you are looking for a finished and polished experience, you should wait. I'm happy to support the small dev team and hoping for a great final product.

Ref manual: "This is a simulation of patience and anticipation.'' So if you are looking for an arcade game with split seconds descissions and wild clicking on map and menus - this is not a game for you. As an Admiral - your command decisions are few, but brutal. Setting up your ordered mission takes hours. Refuel and arm airplanes for a mission is done by shuffling planes on deck and in service hangar. You can enjoy watching progress both in 3D and overview screens. - But you cannot interfere the procedures . When search finds your target, it is time to execute your plans. Any SNAFU now will delay your operations for hours. TTT - Things Takes Time, with no exceptions, . Reports on incoming raids in both strength and waves, it time to react. Shifting Task Force course and speed may buy some precious time. It is important to stay calm and double check decisions at this point. A minute exstra may save your day. Scramble fighters on wrong carrier will end up in a mess with ready to go strike force already on deck. Again - this takes hours to fix. You may scream and hitting undo/cancel buttons, but everything you try to do adds more delays. Live with it and watch the slowly death of your Task Force. . For me with special interest in aviation history, the cinematic narrative story is very important to me. Detailed airplanes, excellent weathering and details in speedbrakes and bomb release mechanism. - Watch them move around in service deck and pushed into elevator. Once airborne, it is in awe to watch them assemble into flights and squadrons. This is close to a documentary as it gets. The deep roar from engines far away and close adds to the immersion. And finally the dogfights and bomb runs through flak and gun fire. I know you may control single aircraft, but there are better flight simulators out there, and for me, the grand scale immersion will be lost. . Not much negative to add. Manual still reflects the demo. Fire with planes on deck should instantly spread out of control.. Aircraft lands while carrier is under attack. It should be ordered to ditch if out of fuel. Graphic does not reflect the damage reported, but it is a minor issue. . Highly reommended deep strategic simulation with plausible results of your decisions. Rich in historical details.

I feel like a kid playing Battlestations: Midway again. While I am a bit disappointed in the lack of content on early access launch, I know full well it has been a very small team working on this project. After tracking the games development blogs for years, the complexity and accuracy of this game blows every competitor out of the water.

If you read The Conquering Tide by Ian W. Toll (the second volume of his famed trilogy on WW2 pacific theatre), you'll enjoy this one. + Few micromanagement needed. You really are an admiral, like Fletcher / Spruance, you make important decisions, then you go to sleep until your staff wakes you up for more important decisions. + Historically authentic. + Amazing visuals. Great details in aircrafts and ships. Great particle effects. Great lighting. + Intuitive and powerful UI. Search and CAP are very easy to set up, Order of Battle is clear and organized, Strike Packages are easy to put together, almost every order/task has time estimate for better situational awareness (and frankly quite realistic too, timing is everything) + Great aircraft AI and physics for an RTS. I'm not very sure but it seems like each aircraft has damage modeling, and there are easily hundreds of aircrafts simultaneously in the air. + Incredible attention to detail: Aircrafts follow traffic patterns. Moving elevators and moving planes on deck and inside hanger, flight operation may be impeded by damage. - Minor issues at the moment, like Cursor/mouse is a little awkward, or game doesn't close properly. - More content sooner would be great.

You get two missions plus a mission generator, and that generator is the biggest reason the game already feels replayable. It gives you new situations to plan around instead of running the same content over and over. The game succeeds because it actually puts you in a commander role. You give orders, manage priorities, and watch your crews execute without direct control. That makes the pacing feel tense in a good way, because your results depend on planning, timing, and decision making instead of manual inputs. Even in its current state, it is fun to learn and satisfying when your plan comes together. If you want a command focused naval game that already has a solid foundation and room to grow, this is an easy recommendation.
