Tchia's got soul! This is one of my favorite games I've ever played, and I had the opportunity to share the experience with my 8-year-old daughter. You get so much game play and content for the price, and the world feels vibrant and alive. I learned something and had lots of fun. I will cherish this experience forever. Please make more games for us Awaceb!

I’m not crying, you are! I bought this game thinking it would be a cozy adventure where I could turn into birbs and fishies. Didn’t expect an emotional journey at the same time - but that came as a pleasant surprise. Overall, it’s an open world style game with all the usual gimmicks - fast travel points, viewpoints that mark our collectibles in the area, etc. Mounts are replaced by the ability to “soul jump” into the animals of the world, but a nice QoL feature is that they let you summon the animal you want if it’s not around. The story is really good, though if you were going straight for story and ignoring everything else you’d probably be done with the game fairly quickly. There’s only one real side quest, which is a treasure hunt, which was really fun, trying to work out from the landmarks where there treasure would be. Most are obvious the rough area if you’ve been paying attention as you played, though some had me going down the wrong track for a while. It was also nice to learn about a totally different culture and the music was delightful. Overall, really enjoyed the game, and would highly recommend.

This game's vibe and characters are super charming and loveable. The music design is fantastic and the setting and tone is meticulously crafted to evoke love and care for this little slice of paradise in the Pacific Ocean. And oh my god, the main mechanic of soul jumping is something that I have been dreaming of to see in a game for a long time. Thanks to it, the combat is very fun and dynamic as well. Also, really loved all the mini games and collectibles this world is littered with. The game is here for you to embrace the playstyle of running around doing silly things just for the heck of it.

I had a lot of fun playing Tchia and I definitely recommend it. The graphics are beautiful and music plays a big role in this game. You get to play different instruments from time to time and the songs are mostly in Drehu which makes them even more unique and nice to listen to. If you want to fully enjoy the music and the visuals, you can turn on autoplay and Tchia will play her instruments automatically. The voice-overs are primarily in Drehu as well which is great for immersion. In general I learnt a lot about a culture and language that I didn't know before and you could see right from the start that the devs have put a lot of love into this game. I also enjoyed the story, it was touching and honestly not what I expected, but I was surprised in a positive way. Being able to explore the world as an animal (mostly birds, deer and dolphins in my case) or different objects such as oil lamps or coconuts is an amazing feature, I love this idea, but unfortunately it doesn't always work perfectly fine. I'll elaborate on this a bit later. Despite all the positive aspects, there are some issues that have also been mentioned by other people. First of all, the game always took more than five minutes to start. It's not a huge problem, but pretty annoying when you don't have a lot of time to play. Some people complained about the game being too brutal and I cannot fully agree. It's probably not the right game for an 8-year-old, but you can actually turn on "Family Mode" in the settings which should "reduce the intensity of some specific scenes", although I haven't tested it because imo there are some scenes in Ghibli movies or even Spongebob that are way more disturbing. You shouldn't give a game a negative review for something that you are able to turn off in your settings, it's not really fair. While soul-jumping is the most convenient way to travel and in the settings there is actually an option to be able to soul-jump without limits, it can also be quite annoying. Sometimes you have to jump out, for example to pick up objects, but by the time you're ready to soul-jump back into the animal that you used before, it will have run away. This kind of ruined the feature because the world is big but empty at the same time, so sometimes you have to run around for like five minutes to find a new animal for travelling. This brings me to another issue, the biggest one for me. It took me 8.5 hours to complete the story and there's no incentive to further explore the world (unless you really wanna go for that 100%) which is sad because the game has a lot of potential. Probably some more side quests would have done the trick. For these reasons, I strongly recommend getting the game in a sale. It's definitely worth playing but probably not worth the full price.

TCHIA, is quite simply, one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences in my almost 40 years of gaming. TCHIA begins as a very typical RPG, and ends up as a game of vast scope, with literally hundreds of items and locations to find, numerous races to be won, flying, swimming and sailing to be done (and even sailing long distances is simply beautiful, and never tedious), all while meeting special people. (My favorite game is the search for chests in secret locations! It just seems to go on for EVAH!) If you don’t want to tackle all the challenges…then don’t! (My bum left hand makes racing, high diving, and slingshot shooting in Tchia very difficult. So, I just never bothered after I discovered the difficulty, and it really didn’t matter much to the game at all! In fact, even though I finish few games, TCHIA is a game that I did finish, and wanted more!) There are numerous battles in Tchia, but few of them are more than just fun with little risk of harm. (And if you lose, you just wake up on your raft, or from a nap beside a relaxing campfire.) Not to say there aren’t dark places in the game, but also a “family friendly” mode to lighten things up a bit. The titular character (curious to see how Steam handles a completely appropriate word), has the special skill to transform into just about any creature she encounters, whether they live on land, or in air or water. Also, she has a ukulele with magical powers, so that’s pretty handy. Tchia is not perfect, with the unfortunate propensity for clipping to allow travel through walls (where it should not happen.) But the minor issues are counterbalanced by the total immersion in the beautiful world representing the island nation of New Caledonia. If you see it, you can most likely pick it up and carry or throw it. If it lives, it’s likely you can pet it. And if it’s a tree, hill, building or mountain…you can climb it!!! And the POV is exactly as encompassing as any player might wish. Tchia starts pretty easy, but with some platforming and racing that can be challenging. But considering the entire world is open as HUNDREDS of challenges, it’s always a simple matter to find something easier, or more difficult, than your current challenge if you should so wish. And BTW…NONE of the achievements are quick or easy! The most common challenge is currently only obtained by 20.2% of all players. If you want fun with just the right amount of challenge to keep you happy, Tchia may be as perfect a game for you as it was for me. I played much of TCHIA offline, so my hours are understated by more than half. Also, please be aware that "woke assaults" have skewed ratings data significantly, and TCHIA would otherwise have (and should have, in this player's opinion) a substantially higher rating. Thank you.
