A great compilation of most of the first TMNT games. As with all remasters or collections, I will first talk about the original games. There's not a lot to say about the classic beat em ups. They are just the best games in the collection and probably some of the best beat em ups ever made along with the Capcom ones. Special attention to the NES port of TMNT The Arcade game, which features 2 new levels with extra bosses. About TMNT Turtles in Time, all console ports are included, the Sega Genesis version, the Hyperstone Heist being some kind of a remix with some level shuffling and different bosses in some levels. Then there's the fighting saga, obviously inspired by Street Fighter. These are probably the worst games in the collection. There's too many weird or obscure characters. Most of the time you will be smashing buttons until the enemy AI decides not to block or counterattack. Interestingly, the NES port was the one I enjoyed the most. Lastly, there's the Gameboy TMNT trilogy of games. These games are not ports of any other titles. The first 2 play as the typical TMNT beat em ups. Just advance through stages, kill everyone, kill boss, move to next level. Expect to fight Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang and Shredder. The usual ensemble of bosses. The third game, TMNT Radical Rescue is an amazing refreshing surprise. It plays like a very crude Metroidvania game. You start with only Michaelangelo and have to rescue the other turtles, Splinter and April while traversing a big map. Each turtle has a unique ability needed for traversing different terrain, for example, Donatello can climb walls and Leonardo can dig through some special crates. It's a hard game, specially without a clear guide on where to go, but a very interesting little game for the Gameboy. Now for this collection, there are a lot of interesting QOL updates. Since the games are just emulated, you can still use passwords if you want, but typical emulator features like quick save and rewind are available. You can also toggle the sprite flickering as well as giving the Gameboy games a bit more colors. You can also play different regions of most games, mostly just japanese and US versions, a nice addition. There's also some cool hints and guides that not only give help on some of the most infamous parts, but also play on famous memes that originated from these games, like that unfair jump in the first NES game. Now, what doesn't work for me. There are a lot of missing games and ports. The collection only focuses on arcades and consoles. There's no Commodore 64, DOS, Commodore Amiga, etc. Even worse, the DOS exclusive TMNT: The Manhattan Missions is completely missing. A game obscure nowadays, but that's probably one of the most unique in the saga. It mixes content from the comics, cartoon and even the movies, with a lot of tactical gameplay instead of just smashing everything. Worse than all, this game was published by Konami originally, so it's unclear why they didn't add it. Still, a great game to play these now ancient games. Get on discount.

This works great on Steam Deck natively. The games included work fine. The save and rewind features are nice, and having all these games together are nice, but its hard not to feel a little shorted when emulators were already doing that 20 years ago. Still, glad they released them in a fully legitimate package.

This was one of those compilations that you wanted so bad but because of licensing jankery you were never sure it was gonna happen. But it did and it's marvelous, Digital Eclipse went above and beyond not only in presenting the games themselves (including QoL options and Japanese versions included), but also in supplemental material, which was a holy grail for a TMNT scholar like myself. We finally got names to all the random enemies that were made for the first NES game!
