Teslagrad 2 is as if they took the 2 in the name Literal, everything was doubled on the sequel compared to the first title; more collectibles, a bigger map, more bosses, side content and more powers. Although gameplay was changed slightly, I believe it was necessary as Teslagrad 2 stands on its own and not just as a sequel to the first entry, and can be enjoyed without the need to play or know the story of the first one. If you played the first game then not much has changed in the overall structure of Teslagrad 2. Story wise, the game does environmental Storytelling. There are plenty of areas you can explore that give you context clues as to what happened. There are machines scattered across the tower as well that play a little silent film portraying what occurred with certain factions of the game. The collectibles as well which are cards show you the lore of specific characters and important events in the universe, which gives you a nice incentive to collect them if you want to see the full picture of exactly what happened in this world. If you have a keen eye and pay attention to the environment and surroundings, you can understand the calamity that fell onto the people of this world. Gameplay Wise its a little different from the first game, Teslagrad 2 focuses more on the movement aspect of puzzle solving, almost all puzzles are movement based. This disappointed me a little because the first Teslagrad was more focused on physic based puzzles and make you feel like you were using your brain more when solving certain areas in the map. To put it bluntly, Teslagrad felt like a MetroidBrania which I loved, and Teslagrad 2 felt like a 2D movement Platformer that so happened to be a Metroidvania which made it feel generic. Its not a bad thing per say as they did a good job and the gameplay loop is fun, but its different from what the first one established and not as unique. Some of the movement would not work correctly either, I would often get frustrated on certain areas of the map because for some reason specific puzzles or areas you needed to traverse through would make the character either get stuck or function oddly, so you had to fiddle with the mechanics a little so they would work in your favor. Overall Though Teslagrad 2 was enjoyable, The game is just as short as the first game, with the story progression being very linear like in the first title but then being more open once you get all your powers which allows you to explore the map and backtrack more freely so you can find all collectibles and do the optional side activities. Id say give it a go if you're a fan of Metroidvanias or 2D Platformers as the game is simple, fun, does not overstay its welcome and because of the length and compact design you have more motivation to 100% the game since it does not take too long to complete. I think for the length and content, the price might be a little too steep however, so if anything wait for a sale.

Really enjoyed this! Lots of unique & satisfying gameplay elements in this castlevania type game with a nordic theme being using powers of electric & magnets. Took me almost 4 hours to beat, although you could probably do it in 3 casually. The late game controls got a bit frustrating for me as they were quite spread on the controller, but I think there are options to change keybinds, I just didn't, so that's more of a me thing. The end game felt like it was kinda rushed or that there should be more content in the game, there were a few mechanics that they throw at you but only use once or twice so I was stuck on them for a while. Regardless of that though it was great quality & themes through.

nice game good puzles and funny boss fights but i didn't like that they force player for grinding cards in the game and that takes so much time just to open the secret ending

I have played Teslagrad 1, and this game and that one are two totally different things. If you take the lore and the name out of the game, you'd have no idea that this game is a sequel to the other one (it's completely fine to play this one without the other one). I love Teslagrad 1 to death but I also absolutely loved this game on its own different way. The first game already had great art but this one is just breathtaking. The beauty, the complexity, the animations, the smoothness, the designs, everything leaves me speechless. I care a lot about "how fun movement is" in a platformer and this one is fucking speedruning material right of the bat. Teslgrad 1 already had a great movement but it was more like a "vertical based" fun movement, while this feels like a "360º based" fun movement and going around the map while combining all different powers and option movements feels so good, although this game needs the godlike movement unlike Teslagrad 1 because while that game is about "solving the puzzle", this game is about "nailing the movement". The lore here is lowkey super deep, ngl I didn't understand it all, but what I did understand was really interesting and it follows the same "Show don't tell" from the first game that made me love it. The map is really really big and it can be overwhelming, and having 81 scrolls to collect doesn't make it better, yet, it's really fun to explore every corner of the map and the amazing art always adds to the enjoyment, and after finding the 4 secret powers (which can be overwhelming to find) you unlock a secret map with all the scroll's locations so at least you can be sure about everything there is to be find instead of exploring every corner 5 times, and there is a super easy way to travel around the map so missing a scroll isn't such a big deal. I read some people saying it was a short game, I don't know what game they are reviewing. My files say that my first playthrough took me 15hs and my second one (already knowing where every power is and how each boss fight works) still took me 4 hours, altough Steam says I have 15.2hs at the moment of writing this, not sure what's with that. If I had to say bad or not excellent things about the game, the boss fights are meh. It has 6 boss fights including the final boss and final final boss for the best ending. Those last two bosses are the best ones (the final final fight is really creative I must say), but the other fights feel easy, random and/or just not rewarding enough. The map also has issues, while exploring, some areas won't completely show as "explored" and will keep having black spaces, and some others will show holes or tiny spaces that seem like there is a room/path to find there. At some point the secret map with all scroll locations will make it clear if there is something else to be find, but until that, the idea of "there must be something else to find/do here" bugged me a lot. Lastly for the maps, some rooms really feel like there must be something else to do because they are so big/beautiful/imponent that it's hard to believe that the developers made such a great room only to do nothing with it. Funny enough, this bad/not excellent things about Teslgrad 2 could also be said about Teslagrad 1. Overall, this game is stunningly good. Teslgrad 1 is in my top 5 favorite games ever. This game probably gets a place in my top 10. 9/10 would recommend and buy a Teslgrad 3 if that ever happens. If you can and you haven't yet, go give a hug to your dad.

This game had some fun powers and cool story moments. I think there is a place for shorter games like this in the 5ish hour range and i wish they were more common (first teslagrad, Gris, Brothers come to mind). I think the boss fights took a step back from the first teslagrad and they might have tried to add in too much variety for the short run time, but overall i had fun!
