Straight out of a 90's Nickelodeon TV Show The Big Con was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting much when i picked it up one sale for 3.74. But it kinda did surprise me. It's a dialogue heavy game with pretty good writing and humor. The main game play of The Big Con is a point and click style adventure, i played with controller show it was more a analogue and click adventure. It's focus is on a girl name Alison Barlow or Ali for short who's mother's video rental store is about to be taken by some loan sharks. Ali not wanting this to happen partners up a grifter she meet selling ice cream. They go on a cross country adventure pick pocketing any and every one they can, yes you heard that right we play as some low live thieves in this game [anything to help mommy i suppose]. They main game play style of The Big Con is to pickpocket people which happens in this little stop in the safe zone style mini game it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it and sad that the game play for it never evolves further through out the story. The game may also ask you to ez drop behind trash cans and buildings to get a better grasp of how to engage with the conversation with the target you need to steal from but besides that the game play is pretty basic from start to end. Honorable mention to the Rad Ghost stake boarding mini game. But yeah grab it on sale the run time for play through is 4 to 5 hours, it's a nice chill game. [Game play 10/20. Graphics 15/20. Story 15/20, Music 12/20. Replayability 10/20.] Final Grade 63/100 Overall Score 6.5

The Big Con has really good writing and humor, but is slowed down by repetitive and boring gameplay. The jokes are some of the best I've seen in a while with a few really good jokes that are built on over the course of the game for fantastic punchlines that come out of the blue (the wish joke in the conclusion with Ricky hit me like a brick and I had to get up I was laughing so hard) . There's a lot of really good character mini-stories happening in parallel to the main plot that I enjoyed following throughout my playthrough. The exploring was fine, and there were a few good environmental interactions, but there was nothing to the same level as the interactions with people. The art was generally pretty good and fit the style well when nobody was moving, but the animations were not very polished. The gameplay outside of the aforementioned mini-stories was less interesting. The puzzles generally consisted of person A saying I want something very specific, then talking to each person in the area until you find the one other person that says I have thing/info you need and I hope nobody steals it from me. There were no puzzles that I felt clever for solving, they all felt more like chores to progress through the area. I would not say the gameplay or puzzles were bad, they were just boring. With all that in mind, the emotional core of the story and the humor made the entire game worth it for me as it easily overruled the apathy I have for the gameplay. The 100% experience is fine; it is possible to get 100% in your first playthrough without a guide, but very unlikely. There are a few collectibles in obscure places that you probably won't find without a guide. Following a guide, I was able to easily clean up my remaining achievements in a second playthrough. It would have been nice for there to be a way to backtrack via a level select or something, but its a short enough game that its not too bad. The Big Con took me about 5 hours to beat, and an additional 2 hours to 100%.

Tried to be a be thorough from the first run, but the gameplay gets quite repetitive quite soon. However, the moment you let got the gamer mind and enjoy the story and the adventure without wasting time on 100%ing it, you'll have much more fun.

Funny and well designed. Controls take some getting used to. Excellent self aware jokes and soundtrack. As someone not alive in the 90's it was very entertaining to run around in an exadurated version of then. I wish it was longer and that there were more things to do. Also you get to play as a lesbian. 9/10
