I had fun with the game. Despite this, I SERIOUSLY want you to wait for a sale. I just wanna let you know my ass is NOT a game reviewer so expect not the best breakdowns in this review (occasional minor and mid spoilers ahead) Now thats out of the way, yes, there are some things I am not in favor overall but if you lower your expectations and have fun with friends and/or family, you will enjoy this. This game is mostly why I tried DBD so I wouldn't miss the million references it was about to show of the game (other than the fnaf collab), and i'm loving Dead by Daylight rn btw! Also before reading any further I played ts from the Supermassive Games side of the community if you couldn't tell, so my main motive to try this out was because it was a choice based game XD. PACING Anyways I like that they try to not make every chapter one of every SMG game start off at a very happy setting and joyful with just introducing the main cast in the morning then it goes till nighttime and THEN the game starts. They have 2 stories and 2 sets of characters that you have to keep track of, potentially a choice affecting the other story across different time periods. What I am in favor of this is that they could easily have just started with the 1980 plotline for chapter 1 because of what i said prior but instead it starts with night off the bat at the 2024 storyline to get a glimpse of whats to come later on. The only part I can consider to be very dragged out is Chris and the gng searching the mill but thats it. I have heard some said going through TCoFS was pretty dreadful, but I simply just disagree because I genuinely didn't lose interest or hate certain things like the story that much compared to what others say about their experience. CHOICES AND VARIATIONS I appreciate the fair bit of varying dialogue trees here from there so I encourage replays because there are lots of differences in scenes surprisingly even at early segments, in which The Cutting Room Floor exists to help you on that but just know it only can be usable after beating the base game. The game also greatly encourages you to NOT be nice all the time but instead balance between being fierce/bold and calm/smart for both dialogue and choices, shit even being a coward (have a brain) potentially saves a character but then again you should know when to be one to survive. GAMEPLAY (don't expect much LOL) Cant say much cause majority were already done in previous SM installments. The use of skill check as replacement of qtes is.... ok, I just wish it was utilized more than just face value of what it is. Though I fw the camera gameplay because it has never been used in any SMG game that actually affects the gameplay and story (TDiM, i'm looking at you...) ever so I love seeing something new AND practice how to aim lol. CHARACTERS This roster for me is pretty okay, Chris was my least favorite but still not terrible and Sam is the goat for facing his biggest opp and fucking him up. Bonnie should have had more screentime than what she got and deserved to be playable at least for a little bit because she's more intriguing among other characters. Stan genuinely was the only mofo to make this game a lot more interesting than what its supposed to be. He was a pretty unlikable dude but he ensures entertainment regardless of that. Augustine is the perfect villain for Casting of Frank Stone because she does it for the love of the game so in other words, pure evil. HORROR Erm.. nothing to say much here. Don't get me wrong the settings and models of houses and buildings and such are designed well so I admit its creepy but I was never shitting my pants, which I hoped since the Dark Pictures Anthology never scared me that much. Only rare startles but a few of them are not even from jumpscares the volume just became loud all of a sudden upon switching scenes BUGS AND GLITCHES Damn, there are quite a few bit of it especially played at release date based on the update logs. Good call they didnt make an online multiplayer mode cause all hell would break loose XD. Don't be discouraged though it wont really screw up your playthrough or visually disrupt the game, its noticeable but thats it. finally, the STORY This is an explanation of why the gameplay of Dead by Daylight happens in the first place and its cool i guess, thats it. Jokes aside some might not like the switching of the filming (1980's) story and the final gathering (2024's) story, but I love it because it's very experimental and like to see more of it, i'd like to see more of a more better version of it in future choice based games installments. Though i personally am in favor of the "present" storyline because they kinda drop the past one in act 3 in most variations and i wanna say more but its super spoiler territory so i'll leave it at that. OVERALL Like I said, this wont be for everyone but if you have fun with it along friends its not a bad experience to get by (i highly suggest you to play DBD or show interest of it for a better experience). 7/10 P.S. This is my first thought out review thanks for reading! :)

I went into The Casting of Frank Stone worried because of all the thumbs down ratings, but I walked away impressed—mostly. The game has a genuinely intriguing concept, blending eerie storytelling and interactive gameplay. The atmosphere is immersive, the visuals are haunting in all the right ways, and there’s this quiet sense of tension that keeps you hooked throughout. That said, the experience wasn’t perfect. The biggest issue? It’s laggy. Like, noticeably. I had to restart the game a couple of times just to get things running again. It’s the kind of thing that pulls you out of the experience, especially when you’re deep into a moment and everything suddenly stutters or freezes. Still, I wouldn’t let that keep you from trying it. The Casting of Frank Stone is genuinely a good game, and if the devs smooth out the performance issues, it could easily become a hidden gem. If you’re into “Choices Matter” game like me, you’ll think it’s worth trying. Just make sure you get it on sale! 😝

I think a lot of the negative reviews for this game are people who are Supermassive fans but don't know DBD, or people who like DBD but don't usually play Supermassive games. If you're a fan of both, you'll likely enjoy the game. But it's a lovechild of both; it has characteristics of both but is missing components of both. It's a good game with several Easter eggs and expands on DBD lore. It's also a game that you'll need to play a couple of times to get the full picture as different actions can give you very different information. It was a bit buggy at release but updates have since smoothed it out.

Get it on a sale, its a decent enough story but too short for full price. Unless you want the DBD content, its not worth full price.
