Wasn't sure what to expect but it turns out its a pretty good game so far. I made it to Chapter 3 and Im still enjoying myself. The game looks fantastic visually locked at 72 FPS. I will say some minor black screen from time to time but other than that, im impressed. Look forward to finishing this game. EDIT: I've completed the game and again, my PC is not great but I still had a ton of fun with this game. I had a lot of technical issues, but the game itself is great. I think it was worth the money and the time. I feel like it was lacking some fight mechanics and it was a bit repetitive but overall, I was satisfied with the price and the game itself. I picked up The Chant recently, and I'm honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It really captures the feeling of an early-2000s horror movie, with its isolated island setting, mysterious cult, and supernatural atmosphere. If you're into psychological horror with a touch of mystery, this game is definitely worth checking out. One thing that surprised me was the enemy variety. The creature designs are unique, and the character models and animations are smooth throughout the game. Visually, it's also beautiful. The floating environments and jellyfish-like creatures create an eerie, dreamlike atmosphere that almost makes you feel as if you're underwater. It gives the game a distinct identity instead of feeling like another generic horror title. The story, on the other hand, is probably its weakest aspect. I found it to be average at best, but the game does offer multiple endings, which adds some replay value and encourages you to make different choices. The only real downside is the stuttering. Credit to a Steam Community Hub user for the stutter fix. Running the game as Administrator, enabling Compatibility Mode, and waiting a few minutes for the shader cache to compile . Overall, I genuinely think The Chant is a hidden gem that deserved more recognition. Since it's already a few years old, it's often heavily discounted, making it an absolute steal if you enjoy atmospheric horror games with exploration, interesting creature designs, and a unique setting.
This game is flawed but still interesting. It mixes elements of a walking simulator with survival elements and horror that is adjacent to Lovecraftian themes. The controls are a bit wonky and the combat is awkward. The story is by the numbers but still a good time. Enjoy the journey, but the ending is a bit of a letdown. The ending I got (the mind ending) could have ended a minute earlier and it would have been fine but it added something that is akin to a cliffhanger for a potential sequel I am nonplussed about. If it is on sale, pick it up and enjoy but definitely seek out other horror if it is full price.
It has some bad graphics and then it suprises you with some good stuff. For me this game was very immersive and that's one of the most important things for me in a video game after gameplay quality witch by the way i think was not bad. Looks like your generic unreal engine indie game but it suck you in quicker than you would ever believe this kind of game could. Also very good characters with their very distinct psychological characteristics. Not gonna spoil the game. I recommend this!
