Some games don’t just entertain; they invite you into a storybook world and ask you to live inside it for a while. The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav is one of those rare titles. Crafted by Daedalic Entertainment, it’s a point-and-click adventure rooted in the long standing German tabletop RPG universe The Dark Eye. What makes it stand out is the way it blends traditional mechanics with a narrative that feels genuinely timeless. You step into the shoes of Geron, a simple bird catcher marked by fate, navigating a grim but beautiful fairy-tale setting. The story begins small and personal but quickly unfolds into something grander, touching on destiny, magic and the fragile line between hope and despair. It’s told with a maturity that many modern adventure games lack and it lingers with you long after the credits roll. Visually, the game is breathtaking. Each scene feels like a hand-painted illustration brought to life, rich with detail and atmosphere. Combined with a haunting score and strong voice acting, the presentation makes you feel as if you’re walking through a dark fantasy painting. The puzzles, while not groundbreaking, are well integrated into the narrative. They challenge without overwhelming and they serve the story rather than distract from it. The pacing, too, is finely tuned; slow enough to let the atmosphere sink in, yet always pushing the tale forward. What sets Chains of Satinav apart is its heart. This isn’t just an adventure game; it’s a carefully woven tale of fate and resilience. For fans of classic point-and-clicks, or anyone who appreciates storytelling done with respect and artistry, this is pure class from start to finish.

A classic point-and-click from the heyday of Daedalic that plays great to this day. A good adventure game doesn't just throw a bunch of puzzles at you but makes you feel attached to its world and its characters, and the team behind Chains of Satinav has without a doubt excelled at the storytelling here. The adventures of Geron, who begins the game with his face literally stuck in the mud, aren't the light-hearted kind: in fact, the game does not shy away from rather dark, violent themes, and the atmosphere is that of all-permeating melancholy and anxiety. The 2D art is top-notch, and while the animations may look a bit rough around the edges occasionally, all is forgiven because of that gorgeous, timeless background art. The puzzles range from straightforward to fairly elaborate, but the design doesn't flirt with moon logic (except in the fairy realm, where some moon logic is to be expected and tolerated): I did have to look up a hint once or twice, but the solutions made me feel frustrated with myself for being unable to see it on my own rather than with the developers. All in all, this is a fantastic 10-hour game whose story will stay with you for a long time – and you can nab this hidden gem for absolute peanuts these days.

I like this but I don't love it. I *seriously* lost patience during a long section where the game switches into dream logic/through-the-looking-glass logic. HOWEVER I'm glad I played this because I then played its sequel, Memoria, which is like the Sonic 2 to this game's Sonic 1 (with that dream bit being the Labyrinth Zone).

I recommend this game on a big sale, but not for full price. I've played this game twice once in 2016, replayed again and I only ran into one bug towards the end. I had to Alt+F4 out of the game but loaded back right to where I closed out. That was the only bug I had encountered during both playthroughs. This game is kind of a rough start to this two part series, depending on what type of games and storylines you like, this one isn't bad at all. I really liked the story and I dove right in. This is a beautifully crafted game with a good story, with a continuation of Memoria, it's the sequel. If I remember correctly , Memoria was the better out of the two, I'm replaying that again next so if need be I'll come back and edit this comment. I really liked the game, the story sucked me in, and it was a good experience. I get why the characters are the way they are, obnoxious at times yes, but it's understandable, but it was good to see Geron fighting against what he's always been told and trying to be a good guy. Nuri a fairy is pretty ignorant of the world and gets into trouble. Honestly throughout the story they both grew on me. As for the puzzles, there's a lot of running back and forth, and a lot of the puzzles were illogical and obnoxious, but for the most part pretty straight forward with what you need to do..... At the same time a lot going on and can be easy to get lost and confused. I did have to consult a guide for a couple of areas. It's a good game if you're looking for a P&C game to play. It's a more serious tone compared to other Daedilic games.

kinda meh, but I guess I'd still recommend it compared to not recommending it the option to highlight interactions really helps a lot if you're stuck, and you can just use the mouse wheel to move through the inventory you could also turn it off if you don't want it
