So its very clear from reading some of the reviews that certain players reviewing did not make it all the way through the game otherwise its very hard to see how they could use terms such as generic. Certainly the first chapters are far more conventional but the last two are anything but and this game has one of the most satisfying endings I can recall in many years. Is Whispered World perfect? No, but its a game with beautiful artwork, gentle humor, and clear and defined melancholic tone and a story that works as a whole and resonates both intellectually and emotionally far after the game ends. Oh yes and it also has satisfying if occasionally obtuse puzzles. With regard to puzzles it is true that some of the solutions are not intuitive. If you are a masochist...er. I mean completionist who simply must solve every puzzle without hints you might find this frustrating. Personally I am okay if one or two I miss as long as I am able to solve most. There are plenty of hints to be found online and most of the puzzles do make sense once you start to get the rythm of the game - looking at you haystack. All in all if you are a fan of point and click adventure games I think you are doing yourself a diservice if you do not play this game. Its up there in my top ten list its that good

Its greatest strength is, without a doubt, the art that it presents, mainly the still images that make up the various locaitons that the Player's Character explores. The mobile elements starkly clash with the magnificent paintings, but the degree to which that is the case varies from sprite to sprite. The game does, however, feature the classic Daedalic approach to stories and characters, making almost all of them unlikable and presenting them through a satirical, steeped in unpleasantly high quantities irony manner. The story, thus, suffers from that, but, at the same time, suffers from the way it is executed. There's a revelation at the end that did not appeal to yours truly at all, due to the fact that it felt as though it undermined almost everything the story itself was about, and, in particular, the character of Sadwick (the Main [Player] Character). The game is incredibly beautiful, and I am, frankly, recomending it purely because of that. There were a few very strong moments within the story, as scenes torn straight from a story book, but, unfortunately, that might be as far as I am willing to go. I get the criticism about the ending but personally I didn't mind it! I loved the art and the overall mood of the game, and I didn't find the puzzles to be 'too much' (just what I expect from this genre in general). I recommend listening to the developer commentary, it made the experience way more interesting and added context for the art & story!
