It's worth a try! Many, many survival games are worse. Much worse. This is ok to good in the beginning. Better than most in the middle and I never ever played it long enough to get to late game. Does this make it a bad game? No. Because I had fun with what I played. And I know there is a lot I never saw, so it is always something new to find in this game for me. You have to understand that this is a combination of Survival and Tower Defense. And it's fun. If you like Tower Defense. And if you like Survival games :-) It does not have the quality as Icarus or the fast progression like Empyrion. But it is a normal and good survival game. I only ever played alone on a private server and don't even know if that server is local or remote. It just works. :-)
***I Only recommend it at $10 sale price*** This game could be really nice but it suffers from a few glaring issues which I will outline in hopes that the Devs see it and take it seriously. I would submit tickets but that process annoys me. Feel free to spend your time doing that if you think it will help. Given the state of developers these days I doubt anything will change and this may just end up being another high potential game that gets abandoned after the money slows. 1. AI - a. Zombie AI is trash, they are dumb, easy to avoid and a very underwhelming threat. b. Animal AI is unreactive, they stand still and let you walk right up to them and bash them on the head. This makes hunting super unrewarding and dull. Just grinding from animal bones and hide without any stealth skill required. Boars should be aggressive, deer should flee...shouldn't be that complicated. 2. Optimization - Frame chugging on medium settings on a rig that smashes games like ARK, 7DTD and Icarus on max settings without any issues. I hit a zone around a church that causes massive lag and frame drops and eventually totally crashed my PC. This was most certainly an issue with the game not the hardware since when I reloaded, it happened again in the same location. Fix clipping. Clipping through doors and walls is pretty bad in 2026. 3. UI - The UI is quite nice as it is but it can be a bit confusing for new players who are unused to games like ARK. The tutorial is so benign that a player might not even see it. I would suggest a story like campaign that sends the player through a village to find journal entries that guide them through the different mechanics in the game. This could be a separate single player experience just to get new players acclimated. 4. Server - Everything is done through a server which is fine I guess but for solo players this always online function can also contribute to poor performance. I would highly suggest a totally offline single player mode. 5. Emptiness - The world feels empty, POIs are there but they kind of suck. They are flat and dull. Rooms are empty, only crates are lootable. I see a medicine cabinet on a wall I want to be able to open it and find meds. I see a trash can and I want to search it. I see a woodpile and I want to be able to take my hatchet to it and get wood. I see a bed and I want to be able to sleep in it. The mines are just big open pits, I'd like to see a mix between pit mines and more traditional mine shafts to explore where a zombie may be right around the corner waiting to scare you. 6. Cross-platform - This is almost a necessity for a game like this. Iron out the issues I laid out above and port it to console. This game would explode on console as 7dtd and ARK are proof that console players are hungry for open world survival crafting games. But you have to fix the game first. With all this in mind, I do recommend the game at the $10 sale price. I wouldn't pay any more than that right now and I don't see signs of improvement lately.
Another game I wont play because of Kernel Level Invasion.. - Update - Changing this to thumbs up because I found a way to play offline solo and uninstall EAC. Delete the EAC folder then in order to load the game, don't do it in steam but instead go to the installation location then click on the folders, Project War > Binaries > Win64, then go launch TheFront from there. May be a bit tricky the first time to get it to launch but after a while I got my single player game and can enjoy this game finally.
