No Longer On Steam Edition. Turns out SNK released XIII Global Match, the same game with (a barely functional) rollback netcode. Online still works against other Steam Edition owners but ranked is dead . Often hailed as the greatest KoF, it's worth revisiting. Solid mechanics, a large roster and some of the nicest spritework of its genre. Oh my god it found a match!

I am quite sure most of my gamer buddies knew that this game is purely made entirely by hand drawing, and it is the first KOF (King Of Fighters) game to use this style, away from the traditional pixel sprites. This is quite unique and simply awesome. But too bad the stages looks stiff and not as vibrant with life as previous titles before this one does. Yup, this game is far from perfect, but still fun and quite good comparing to others. And also yes, each of us gamers definitely have our own preferences for sure. As for me, even though I like this one, still prefers the pixels sprites style, just like SNK already did since KOF'94. The fighters looked more detailed and realistic enough. Plus their movements are so fluid. I salute the creator team! But mostly I like all of their characters design, because they look better and more humanoid than cartoony or even slightly weird but awesome, like any other famous fighting games out there. Plus, most of the characters looks fashionably fabulous. From the coolest to the simplest attires set, yet still brimming with excellence. Perfect for cosplaying! :3 Thank you, SNK! b(^_^)d

This game will be delisted at 6:59 AM PST on January 23, 2025 from Steam because a new version with rollback netcode will be released in PC. THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII GLOBAL MATCH is set to bring 2D fighting action to Steam on February 20, 2025 for the price of $19.99 USD/€19.99. Steam accounts that have already purchased KOF XIII STEAM EDITION can purchase KOF XIII GM for Steam at a discounted price of $6.99 USD/€6.89. Get this version now only if you want add it to your KoF collection because it will be delisted, otherwise just wait for the Global Match version with rollback netcode in 2025.

I'm stupid for forgetting to ever write a review for this game after all the years. This is not just the most beautiful and detailed looking sprite based fighting game but I'd argue the most visually stunning game ever made. So beautiful in fact, the devs nearly went bankrupt due to the expensive visuals this game has in their characters and backgrounds. Where the fuck is the rollback update SNK?

I love this game, but it does not play well on newer hardware. For anybody who has a top end computer or if it's just not running initially AFTER you boot it and it's stuck at a loading screen, you have to find an old hard drive UNDER 1TB of space (Preferably 500GB) and install it there. You may also have to start it in windowed mode by going to the game preferences and typing -w. It will work after those two steps are done and something to keep in mind for other older titles as well. If I didn't love this game so much I would have not recommended it.
