absolutely fantastic game. I can not wait for their next one. From start to finish I enjoyed every minute and the best part is for the achievement hunters just playing this game naturally will get you all 32 achievements. Thank you to the Devs for showing us again you don't need to be 70 dollars to play an amazing game.

I will recommend this game, but know that there are many little annoyances that might make you want to stop playing. The game isn't bad, but it is bad at teaching you how to do things and what to do next. Right from the very beginning, it throws all kinds of things at your face, making it feel overwhelming, even though it isn't that complicated. Puzzles don't get explained on how to use your tools to solve them at all. You get some of the tools, feel like somethings still missing, keep exploring and eventually give up and look it up. But then you realize, you could have done the puzzle all along and just didn't understand that you could! Once you do know when to actually approach a puzzle, it becomes a lot better. But sadly the game doesn't give you that on its own. The combat in this game is pretty simple. It tries to give you these hard enemies and that hard first boss that will beat you up at first, however, once you're past the initial one and gotten some upgrades, the game gets easier and easier and combat will simply change to "how do I kill the enemies the quickest", instead of "how do I even beat this enemy" You feel really powerful really quickly imo. I like the way the map is designed, but I do feel like it sometimes has too many empty rooms and pathways. Sometimes, you can already get to certain rooms, which you will need to go to later, so they seem empty and the thing you need to get only spawns after you're far enough into the story. It always feels kinda bad to go through a section just to find nothing at the end. I wish that they would at least show these spots on the map. All kinds of things are marked on the map, which abilities you need to go further, but some very minor small things, you need to collect SOMEWHERE in a huge section you've already been to, is pretty boring. It should at least be easier to find what you're looking for. I love metroidvania style games, but this one is so much more extreme in being confusing and letting you run around everywhere without knowing where to even go.. it.. sucks the fun out of it. I had to look up how to continue several times throughout my playthrough. Most of the time, it works no problem. But sometimes the story wants you to do one thing specifically and everything else doesn't matter until you did that one thing. I would probably have stopped playing this if it weren't for the internet and having maps and playthroughs available. Overall I liked the gameplay, the abilities and the story. It has a unique artstyle with lots of different lightings, though it does sometimes bug out and gets way too bright for a while in specific locations or cutscenes randomly.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a bit of a mixed bag for me. On the whole, I enjoyed the game. The story is interesting, the limbo looks strange/weird enough, nailing an interesting visual aspect, the puzzles are tricky and running around exploring, for the first time at least, is tons of fun. On the other hand, I really didn't like the combat nor the control scheme on pc, so much so I was really glad the game offered some special options to fine tune my experience and I took them up on the offer making the combat a formality while keeping the puzzles and exploration as top priority. But I said the game is a bit of a mixed bag, and that is because some parts of the game felt frustrating for no good reason. The game has a couple chasing sequences and I disliked both, the second one more than the first because I was getting confused about what direction I was supposed to fleed at certain points, causing me to die and having to restart all the way down. The exploration suffers a bit because unless you're marking all things, you're gonna have a hard time tracking down things you might have missed on second pass. The tatooing experience, past the first time, is annoying as you have to watch the full animation of Benedict screaming every time. The control scheme felt annoying. Before finishing the game, my opinion about the game was that it was an OK experience, a 7/8 out of 10 joint. But then I finished the game and I didn't really like the ending. The payoff didn't feel worth the journey, altho I'll admit that at least the post credits little animation has me hopeful for a sequel one day. I'll also lament that after finishing the game, there isn't a newgame+ mode, if you hit continue you just repop at the last section of the game, so any achievement you missed, like upgrading all the shop items, is gone unless you start all over again. The game will warn you that you should complete any loose ends before advancing at a specific point, and that is quite helpful, but having a newgame+ would still have been nice.

Good metroidvania with a cool Lovecraftian atmosphere. There are some minor technical issues with the game, mainly the long loading times and the backgrounds don't load on screen quick enough. Combat was nice, the gun is strong but starts off with one shot and you have to upgrade it later. Character upgrades made combat better. It was fun to grab enemies and just yeet them off cliffs and stuff. Enemy variety is a little basic there could have been a few more added into the game for each memory. Bosses ranged from normal dodge/attack type to a puzzle solving variety. Overall it was fun and the story was interesting so if you're into Lovecraftian stuff check it out.

The devs seem to have fixed all the bugs and issues that plagued this game upon release so credit where credit is due. I did encounter one bug where I turned ultra slow motion and couldn't do anything bar restart the game (I was unable to replicate it). Luckily there is a manual save in the settings which I don't think many people would find or at least, I didn't know about it until the above bug forced me. The game looks incredible and the world building is awesome. It's almost Tim Burton-esque and surrounded in mystery, I thoroughly enjoyed the aesthetic and story. The combat is basic but sufficient, it's a metroidvania so I wasn't expecting insanely difficult combat although some of the bosses took me a few tries to figure out especially the last boss. Once you start upgrading your weapons and skills you can easily wipe the floor with lesser mobs (ground slam is OP). Also, you don't need to kill mobs you have already killed as you won't get any ink, they are easily distinguishable so you can just run past them if collecting artifacts unless they are really hindering you. You will most likely need a guide if going for all the achievements (I did). And you will still need to be able to read/decipher the code (I won't ruin it) in the game to complete the puzzles as some of the runes you get are random (so it seems) so you may not necessarily get the same runes as a guide. The code is one of the most intriguing parts though. Once you figure out how it all works, I loved figuring out the puzzles. Overall I enjoyed my time, I new what I was getting into. The devs have also said they have learned a lot making this game and I'm curious to see where they go next so I will be dropping them a follow. Edit: I wont be giving them a follow as you can't yet on Steam, I'll keep an eye out ;D
