The story of Riftbreaker, not the story in the game, but the story *of* the game, is a fascinating one, and one which the big development studios should take notice of. This review is being written August 25, 2025, when the Co-Op function was added to the game, but I've been playing it since release. I would have recommended it back then, but now I absolutely have to. This game was made with no intention of multiplayer functionality, but because it's the perfect kind of game to play with friends, there was a huge outpouring of requests for it and the devs at EXOR set about the herculean task of adding multiplayer. Through the long saga of this function's development, they've kept up a regular series of updates on the process, but didn't skimp on regular gameplay content releases at the same time. EXOR is an exemplar of game development studios, willing to put in the hard work for something their community deeply desires. As for the game itself, if you liked the factorybuilder games that came before, and the tower-defense elements that some of them had, Riftbreaker will feel like a familiar but fresh experience, with its own innovations and focuses on the genres. The story mode is fantastic with phenomenal voice acting as well. I cannot recommend this game enough. Riftbreaker is what happens when devs are passionate about their project and willing to put in the hard work to see it through. EXOR is a model that other devs should aspire to, and Riftbreaker is a helluva fun time.

I like ARPG's. I like factory sims. I like this game, because it's an insanely good casual combination of the two genres.

I don't usually wait this long to write reviews for games I like this much, but it's been complicated to find bad things to say.. This game has a bit of everything I like, RTS building, Hordes of squishy things, destructible Environments and Actually useful Upgrades. Story wise, it's simple, easy to follow, understandable and doesn't really block my gameplay much which I appreciate. Enemies are your usual sets of weaker hordes with some stronger enemies and some special units thrown in to keep things interesting and incentivizing you to keep different weapons on your loadout to deal with them all, but not strict about it forcing you to change things you like to use. Weapons themselves work really well and they all feel useable at any point of the game. From Machineguns, to Flamethrowers and Nuclear missiles, everything has a use, researching into better tiers makes them even more useful and adds Mod slots to change how they affect the enemies. Building in the game feels easy, maybe a different menu would work better since it starts getting a bit cluttered at the end, but everything that is necessary can be reached with hotkeys anyways and separated neatly into categories. Maps are limited during the campaign (Writing this while Version 2.0 which lets you generate new maps is still in Beta) but resources don't feel scarce, the Devs thought about people like me that like to get everything they can with alternate resource gathering methods, so you won't really feel stuck during the story. Overall it's an incredibly entertaining and relaxing game that I don't see myself stop playing soon. Looking forward to all the good stuff it will bring.

I'm not autistic enough for Factorio, but I am autistic enough to enjoy this game.

This game wasn't released with co-op when it come out but devs have been working hard to make it possible. They have reached open beta stage for co-op. Never heard of another company that done so much for there fans without costing a sub or so.
