The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is a more linear detective adventure with a darker tone, focusing on a single, long mystery rather than separate cases. It leans more on storytelling and atmosphere than on pure deduction. It does feel a bit dated today, both in pacing and mechanics, but it’s still alright overall. The story is engaging enough, and there are some interesting investigative moments along the way. It may not be the strongest entry in the series, but it’s still worth experiencing if you enjoy Sherlock Holmes games and don’t mind older design choices.

🕵️‍♂️ A Gripping Mystery Worth Investigating! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (9/10) The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is a masterclass in detective storytelling. From the moment I stepped into 19th-century London, I was hooked by the dark, atmospheric setting and the morally complex narrative. This isn't your typical Holmes tale—it's grittier, more personal, and full of twists that kept me guessing until the very end. The puzzles are clever and varied, striking a great balance between challenge and satisfaction. I especially appreciated the ability to switch between first-person, third-person, and even a top-down view—it made exploration feel fluid and immersive. The voice acting is top-notch, with Holmes and Watson delivering performances that feel true to their literary roots while adding a fresh edge. If you're a fan of detective games, rich narratives, or just love a good mystery, this game is a must-play. It's not perfect—some animations feel a bit dated—but the story and atmosphere more than make up for it. 🧩 Come for the puzzles, stay for the plot twists. Holmes has never been darker—or more compelling.

My read was correct. The sixth Sherlock Holmes game created by Frogwares is a major turning point in the franchise. We have a new character model and voice actor for the man, himself. This version of Holmes is darker than the previous games. The new voice actor is very intense and sounds almost sinister. His performance matches Holmes' rudeness and willingness to outright lie to people. Dr. Watson's voice actor hasn't changed and he continues to perfectly provide an emotional contrast to the focused and irritable Holmes. "Testament" is Frogwares' first entrance into the modern era of graphics. It uses shaders and post-processing effects to massively improve the graphics over previous games. This game looks pretty nice. Though the lead character and visuals have been significantly overhauled, the gameplay is more or less the same as the formula Frogwares has been using since Awakened. The biggest addition is a third control method: third-person with direct control. First-person was superior to traditional point-and-click movement, and now third-person is better than both. I'll also say that this was the easiest game in the franchise, so far. There are a few challenging puzzles, including some damn number puzzles again, but the majority of the gameplay is finding objects and using them in the right place. There's no exploration. Areas of play are usually very small and there aren't a huge number of possibilities for interactions, so progress is usually smooth and continuous. There are a few clue boards, but they're not used often. The main thing you do in this game is watch the story unfold. Nothing should be said about the story. It's a doozy! While I definitely enjoyed "Testament," I'm concerned about the reduced interactivity and lower difficulty. It was released in 2012, shortly after gaming became mainstream and games developers were honing in on the best ways to attract the mass audience. Many franchises were stripping down and streamlining their game designs in the early 2010s to make them more accessible. Developing HD video games was becoming extremely expensive and they needed to sell to larger audiences. It seems Frogwares also followed the trends of the time. I hope my next Sherlock Holmes game to play, "Crimes & Punishments" (2014), won't be over-simplified. I'd hate to think my journey through all of Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes is leading me to inevitably land back at modern gaming "slop."

It may not be perfect or groundbreaking, but it’s an adventure game with a surprisingly engaging story. If you're a fan of the genre and can overlook some clunky controls and dated visuals, it's a solid experience worth checking out.

I was able to finish the game without any crashes! maybe because I have a potato pc at the moment :D I found the gameplay mechanics a bit rigid in my opinion for a detective game, everything is almost focused on interacting with the environment with very little thinking and deduction. The story is interesting and coherent but you have to try to finish the game quickly otherwise you lose the course of events. There is a lot of puzzles too much maybe.. and sometimes they are frustrating and you don't understand what to do to advance without any hints..and if you dont want to use the concentration mode you will loose a lot of time, but overall it's not a big problem. I liked this opus but clearly it's not the best of the series. 6/10
