INTERESTING. Well-crafted. Intriguing. My ever-continuing search for good psychological horror remains fruitful. What's not fruitful? The job you're given in Threshold. My god, so THAT'S why there's a little mouth in the UI. But this job provides good healthcare, how lucky are we! I love a game that reminds me of the state my country is in. The gameplay loop is shockingly immersive. There's nothing tedious, here. Every few minutes you discover a new little tidbit of information so that you can begin to put together what you're doing here, why you're here, what the hell is going on... Not horror in the traditional sense, but if you'd like to ruminate on the future of the planet and what sorts of crapass jobs mankind will have to endure to keep everyone alive, then you'll certainly start to feel some existential dread.

there's something very compelling about how dire this game is, and a lot of that is purely the audio design of the whole thing. i understand criticisms that it's slow, but i also wonder what people expected— this game is honest with you right off the bat. "welcome to the most boring and stressful maintenance job in the country." finding comfort in the circumstances and unease of your new job in this game is something interesting— you never quite feel all the way at ease. and it can be easy, at a point, even if you play at the higher difficulties, but that ease feels earned when everything is a currency. everything you need to get more air is at a distance from everything else, and distance spends the breath you earn with every step. at 7 hours, ive eaten this game up to the bones, and i think it was very worth the price. :) train must run

Even the all knowing clerk doesn't know how Julien managed to release an indie game while working in a mainstream game studio and raising a newborn baby at the same time, and he still has time to reply to my messages!

One Crunchy Bite There will be a TL;DR at the end. ~ Wow. I played through the core experience in under two hours, and upon going back, there wasn’t much more to wrap my head around! The negatives of the experience are clear at the end of it: It’s very short, the experience is generally shallow, and there isn’t much texture to keep one going. But there’s a lot going on in this very simple experience, tags that tickled my brain and gave me serotonin: Cosmic horror, grit, mystery, exploration, clever writing, immersive worldbuilding, uneasy aesthetic, etc. Threshold does a fantastic job at being weird and, in spite of its generally shallow presentation, provides a certain aura of depth that is very welcome and surprising. It feels less like a grand game than a single, very well crafted level with open endings - like a perplexing and intricate episode of a quality TV show. I can certainly say that I enjoyed my time with the game, although I must confess that the offering price is particularly steep. The game is meant to be a single level that is replayed over and over to extract different value to walk away with, but that means walking through the same intros and padded dialogue. It’s interesting, but unimportant. You’re going to be through the experience in about an hour, and replaying the game is going to give you an opportunity to explore more paths, but at the end of the day you’re basically messing around in one room and rewatching the same show over and over with minor differences. Consider it a movie ticket and enjoy the ride, revisit for free refills if you like the taste - but I can assure you that one bit’s all you’re going to need, because it’s quality and compact. ~ TL;DR 6/10 Threshold is an Above Average game. It may leave you wanting for more, a lot more, while filling your mind with questions; painful and abrupt as the sensations' end might be, there’s no denying how fulfilling it is overall. A quick refresher, a single breath - just dig your teeth in and enjoy what it has to offer, even though you’ll likely be spitting out leftover chunks in your mouth; abandoned with the feeling as though you deserve a lot more than something so small.
