I see a pattern here. When someone writes a review and says they don't understand what any of the negativity is about, it usually means they found way more good than bad, which alone is a reason to give a game a try. I've also noticed that some of the reviews are about technical issues. That said, this game was amazing. It had a great amount of great pacing and just enough to do to keep it interesting. There was definitely a story there too. The story was good and very interesting. It was a bit short, but that's a compliment. It's creepy and cozy. Perfect for a rainy day. I like another game by this developer Argenti a horror within the Great Pyramid. Can't wait for more from this talented team.
I bought the game on sale for $5, and was very happy with my purchase. I thought there would be more from this game, but it was very short with it being beaten in just under 2 hours, and I'm sure if you knew what you were doing then it may not even take an hour. Know that before going in. This is not a lighthouse keeper simulator, and as a matter of fact you only seem to do any sort of regular duties a few times. That said, the setting, characters, and vibe are absolutely on point. I truly enjoyed experiencing this game and had some real good jump scares. If you want an ez-breezy psychological horror game that is short and doesn't waste your time, this is it.
I'm going to give this a thumbs up because not only is the Steam algorithm a treacherous beast, but also game development is a massive feat of endurance and effort and it's amazing that this micro-studio (two brothers maybe?) can put something like this together. Kudos for getting this far! I wish I could actually recommend this game. It is riddled with visual bugs and marred by a general lack of polish. The very first splash screen, the the very first , has a typo on it. The head-bob is extreme and nauseating, and won't stay turned off. The menus are very basic Unreal Engine UMG defaults, full of little inconsistencies and misaligned bits. The environment art is lovely at first glance, but the water has a lot of artefacts that pop in and out when you move. The textures and 3D models are assembled from store assets without much discernment, juxtaposing textures in wildly different styles and resolutions, and anachronistic props, like filter cigarettes (invented in the 1950s) (and also an 80s/90s pack of Marlboros), a table of radios from different eras, a mermaid statue that is clearly AI generated (I believe this is probably a genuine mistake). The stairs in the living quarters rise straight up through the ceiling, when seen from below. At one point I saw an eerie apparition over the sea - but it turned out to be a particle effect from the indoor fireplace that had somehow displaced itself to the beach. This might have been the same particle system, with massive billowing refraction sprites, that I saw through the ceiling of the house. I triggered a trigger volume from the other side of a wall. I only played for an hour before I gave up. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting. So, genuinely, kudos for getting so far. You rattle these games out awfully quickly. Slow down, eh?
